Vyvanse is a new drug on the market the is very similair to Adderall XR. Like any ADHD medication, this drug does raise one's heart rate and will have an affect on one's stomach. Something that I do is open up the capsule and pour the contents into apple sauce. The mixture of the food and the medication makes it a lot easier on the stomach. The common misconception is that you need the capsule, bu...

Story: I had taken 20MGs Vyvanse as a kid for ADHD, it worked great and soon I was the smartest kid in my whole class, eventually it just stopped working around middle school so I stopped taking it, and my grades went back down to being barely passing. Sophomore year in Highschool, I decided to try it again because I was failing all my classes because I could never stay focused in class, I asked m...

My 18 year old son has been on Vyvanse for well over a year. He has ADHD Inattentiveness. For the last four months we have been decreasing his dosage. His grades have gone through the roof as has his confidence. However, he has lost 30lbs, is never hungry, has som OCD habits and his sleep patterns are totally screwed. We have allowed him to not take his meds on Friday-Sunday so that he can eat, sleep and feel like his old self. But then on Monday, it is like starting completely over. With college (and he got in at his first choice)right around the corner, I am thinking about asking the Dr. for a shorter acting drug. For my son the effects linger for over 12 hours. The drug works but the side effects can be overwhelming.Read More Read Less

I have taken concerta in the past. It works well for me, except for the severe crash after about 8 hours. Prescribed Vyvanse because this is supposed to taper more slowly. I found the effect to be COMPLETELY different from concerta: jittery, scatterbrained, jabbery, tired, hungry, bad dry mouth and nauseous. I did notice the increase in sexual desire and effect even after a short course. I went off it, but didn't notice the withdrawal that I usually get with concerta.

Child dx ADHD (Not hyperactive, but has impulsive behavior. Acts and speaks without thinking, easily upset, easy to anger, hard to calm down). Other current diagnosis is Asperger's Syndrome. Hx dx high functioning autism; PDD NOS. Wonder drug, has helped with typical Asperger's symptoms in addition to the ADHD impulsivity. Better able to focus in a group situation, doesn't overreact to stimuli such as sounds or proximity of other people, does better with handwriting (not sure why), able to speak more fluently and converse better (maybe because of improved processing speed). Relationships with peers are greatly improved. Symptoms return when med wears off in the evening and has lability. Has lost 4% of weight in 6 months. Improved confidence. Some side effect with changing position from standing to pushup position in gym, dizziness. Read More Read Less

I have tried several stimulant medications for my A.D.D. and I can actually eat and sleep taking Vyvanse. With other stimulants, I had no appetite nor could I sleep.

Okay I have been taking ADHD medicine since I was four.. Thats 15 years...To all the people complaining about not eating as much Vyvanse is actually quite good. You guys aren't going to find one that will let you eat normally. As a kid I looked like a walking skeleton, and I mean sunken cheek bones and everything. What we did was drink boost in the morning and at night. I will tell you the alternatives are worse, I have been through them. Some ADHD meds will boost your metabolism while making it hard for you to eat.Read More Read Less

I am similar to the female college student. I have a lot of trouble concentrating and being organized for class and such. Once I started taking Vyvanse, I noticed a huge difference in my concentration and self confidence levels. The medication releases a lot of dopamine, but it takes 2 hours to get into your system, so be mindful of that and when you need it to start working. Also, do not eat or drink any Vitamin C in the first two hours after you take it, the effects may start to wear off. Other than that, it's a fantastic solution. Loss of appetite was something I already expected to happen. I highly recommend it for anyone with ADHD.Read More Read Less

The medication was fabulous for my 10 yr daughter. Been on it for 2 1/2 yrs. No headaches or feel sorry for me when medication wears off. Only 2 drawbacks we found was she developed an eye tic & of course no appetite. School kids telling her she's weird & making fun of her. Switching back to Concerta because of this.

I ramble way too much and literally cannot keep to one topic for more than 5 seconds so before you lose me I'm just gonna say if you have ADD and your grades are suffering and you want them to be better take Vyvanse. it's a bit intense but the report card doesn't lie! Definitely worth a shot if you are really struggling. Oh and I am an EXTREMELY impulsive person and it helps with that. Definitely improves my OCD and anxiety. In a lot of ways it will make you feel like Superman but since it's a strong stimulant it has its cons. Good luck! Read More Read Less

I didn't notice a sudden difference in thinking. It was more of an ability to focus on tasks and complete them. Had increase in sexual desire and sensitivity. Was able to sleep through the night.

Vyvanse has really changed my life! I was diagnosed bipolar when I was 15, so I've been put on Prozac, Zyprexa, Celexa, Lexapro..you name it I've taken it just about. I would go through spurts where I would have it all together but then everything would just fall apart again because I couldn't keep everything in order or complete tasks or remember anything! I got re evaluated and was diagnosed with ADHD a year ago, I started on 30mg of Vyvanse, I now take 50mg. I'm back in college..I'm better at completing tasks, my bills are paid ON TIME..I no longer late for work! I use to be soo horrible at these things because for me it was hard to keep up with it all. It says it causes insomnia, but actually I have more restful sleep now. I have lost some weight but I needed a little! I would recommend this for anyone with the same problems I had!Read More Read Less
