Vyvanse is a new drug on the market the is very similair to Adderall XR. Like any ADHD medication, this drug does raise one's heart rate and will have an affect on one's stomach. Something that I do is open up the capsule and pour the contents into apple sauce. The mixture of the food and the medication makes it a lot easier on the stomach. The common misconception is that you need the capsule, bu...

Story: I had taken 20MGs Vyvanse as a kid for ADHD, it worked great and soon I was the smartest kid in my whole class, eventually it just stopped working around middle school so I stopped taking it, and my grades went back down to being barely passing. Sophomore year in Highschool, I decided to try it again because I was failing all my classes because I could never stay focused in class, I asked m...

I've never reviewed a drug before, here goes. My favorite food is no longer appealing, My appetite is at the opposite of peaking. It did and Earhart & disappeared, maybe one day it'll come storming in like Paul Revere. I'm thirsty as heck, like a stray dog, I got empty bottles- waters all gone. My brain is alert, my body is tight, My heart beats fast but I think I'm alright. This drug is sick but I don't want more, because addiction is scary and I'm not that hardcore.

I have been on this medication for over 5 years. I was diagnosed with ADD my freshman year of college and was initially prescribed Adderall XR. After 12-24 months, I needed a change due to the severity of the product. I was switched to Vyvanse 50mg and absolutely loved the medication. My concentration was great and I didn't experience the "high" as the medicine kicked in or the "downs" that normally included a headache that I felt on the Adderall XR. Vyvanse is a smooth transition as the medicine comes and goes. Since starting on the Vyvanse 50mg, my dosages strength has crept up about every 2 years and have now been on the 70mg for 3+ years. This medicine has gotten me through undergrad, graduate school and now aides in my professional career. Although I do speak highly of Vyvanse, I know that being an older user of this, or any amphetamine, is beneficial due to the side effects associated with them. Loss of appetite, difficulty sleeping, and increased heart rate, are all going to happen. It's up to the user to be aware of these side effects by: 1. making a conscious effort to eat even when your not hungry, know that your body needs the food to function; 2. develop a sleep routine so your body knows its time to wind down, go to bed at the same time and wake up at the same time every day (it helps!); 3. be aware of increases in your heart rate, slow down and take a break, or get out of the situation if too severe. I do want to let others know that each time I increased my dosage (50,60,70) it was very hard. I had trouble sleeping and eating for 3-5 days, however after that I was back to normal. After 6+ years on ADD meds, my blood pressure has steadily increased each year. Since I am in the stage in my life that I'm not studying for exams or writing grad papers, I'm going to quit taking it. I will need to slowly decrease strength to avoid withdrawals because after 6+ years I know I have become dependent on it. But that's OK because its helped me tremendously!Read More Read Less

Headaches and tingling in face, head, and fingers. It really helps me focus however the above mentioned side effects scare me. Also, my blood pressure has risen since taking it and it makes me very edgy!!

Keeps you very awake and focused, I didn't see many side effects. DOES get you a little more on edge, but my new medicine counteracts that.

HORRIBLE!!! I took this medication for about 6 months. At first it helped me focus at work and other than feeling like I was on speed half the day I was alright. Then i'd grow tolerant and we'd have to up the dose. About 4 months in I started having bad depression. The doctor increased my dosage because I was up and down all the time (mimiced bi polar). Then I became suicidal, I just wanted the depression and pain inside to stop. Finally I told my doctor, he prompltly took me off it and put me on an anti depressant. I've had a few friends who had the same kind of expereience and one friend whose 12 year old child tried to jump out of a moving car because he wanted the psychosis to stop. All people returned to their normal selves after taking this. And one friend was on it for 2 years and then had these problems (and he didn't introduce any other medications) This is a horrible drug, try something else. I haven't met one person who has been on it for any length of time that hasn't ended up in a really bad place and suicidal.Read More Read Less

Ive been taking medications for ADD since I was about 10 years old. I started with adderall, and moved to Vyvanse. I have never liked the side effects: Jittering, loss of apetite, cautiousness, itchy skin, weight loss, irritability, lack of sleep, and the list goes on. That is why I have rated it low for ease of use, because it definitely makes you feel like crap. That being said, It does its job.... REALLY WELL! Without the medication, i can usually keep focused on something for about 20 minutes before I get distracted. Once I take Vyvanse, however, I can stay on task for the entire length of the medicines effects (about 12 hours). I do not take this on a daily basis, mostly when I need to crunch for an exam or write a report. Read More Read Less

I've been suffering from depression for nearly 30 years, I'm 52 and part of a study that adds Vyvanse to my high dose anti-depressent Effexor XR. I feel terrible on this drug, it's now been over 8 months and today I feel like I just don't want to live anymore. I think Vyvanse caused me to burn through my anti-depressant and make things worse. I gained 10 pounds on this drug, so it's clearly working differently for me than what I'm reading from the parents of child patients. I have never taken a different ADHD med, but I'm going to ask for a change. Read More Read Less

My daughter began vyvanse 20mg for adhd with behavor issues. Only took for 2 days..several reactions..hallucinations, anxious, no ballance, suicidal actions, worthless feelings, paranoia, excessive speech, high-wired behavor, no emotion control, loss of vision or tripple vision, crying uncontrollably to uforic swings withen minutes, rapid heart beat, dry white mouth absolutely one of the most terrifying things I've ever had to witness my daughter beg me for her own death..severe bipolar symptoms..refused to eat or drink...she began to pick at her skin claiming she could feel things under her skin.. Lasted approximately 16 hours siblings became frightened and had to be sent to relatives..absolutely would not consider again for minors especially young children severe symptoms as above remain after 3 days without any more medication could not attend school. Absolutely horrific experience for my child my family and myself definitely would never consider again for a child... This was her first ADHD medication and caused her to fear any medication including ibuprofen and antacids. She lost trust her doctor and me her mother due to this medication her ADHD and anxiety have doubled at school and home also had to increase for therapy 6 hours a week..this narcotic is highly and recommendedI would not wish that upon anyone adult or child without complete examinations and consideration for some time please be more attentive and I was to side effects I hope to save another child from the torture my daughter went through for days never have felt so uninformed and completely at fault as a parent in my life please consider this before use!!!!!!!!!Read More Read Less

Im a 35yr old female and have been taking Vyvanse for 3 days. I had no symtoms the first day but yesterday the lower back paint started and today it has continued and gotted a little worse. Its moved up my back slighty today. Ive done nothing to strain myself so I know its the meds and Im very aware of my body. As for other feelings yesterday I felt somewhat like I wanted to just be alone. Felt bug eyed and just wanted to not be around other people.( I think for feared people would be able to tell I was on something or just wasnt myself) Has anyone else had back pain?Read More Read Less

My son took this medicine last year. I didn't know that one of the side effects was depression. SEVERE depression. He couldn't effectively tell me what it was, but he kept saying it wasn't working well. The doctor increased the dosage. With that, the depression became even worse. Don't dismiss it if you see it. Be warned! I didn't see that listed on the info sheet when we got the medication. Watch your child when he/she takes this. It was awful for us and his schooling never recovered. It was a rough year for all of us.Read More Read Less

I'm 16 and have taken this medication for almost three years. When I first started taking it I was in eighth grade and very overweight but within a few months my weight decreased dramatically and I became a little too skinny. Today at the doctor's office my mom told the doctor that I'm very moody when I'm on it and the doctor gave me a brand new medicine which I am NOT happy about. Since I started taking Vyvanse my grades have been great. I do hate how moody I am sometimes and wish I could help it but I really can't. My advice for anyone taking this medicine is to definitely eat, even though you will feel like you aren't hungry. You will feel a sense of aggravation with little things throughout the day but that's about the only bad side effect I've experienced with this medicine. Usually when I'm in one of those bad moods I distance myself from everyone for a while and chill out for a little which seems to help a lot. This medicine changed my life in a good way.I went from having almost all D's and F's to taking college courses as a junior in high school. Everyone has the ability to achieve whatever it is they want, never let something as little as ADD/ADHD hold you back! :-)Read More Read Less

I've been prescribed this drug for a concussion. I've had many of the bad side effects and it has not helped with my feelings of dizziness. If your doctor prescribes you this for a concussion, you may want to suggest something else since some of the side effects include nausea, headaches, and dizziness.

I was diagnosed with ADHD and prescribed Vyvanse. I have been taking 50mg daily, for a week. I have noticed an overall feeling of clam, and control of my life that previous;y seemed to escape me. I am a special education teacher, and constantly seemed to be going in circles trying to organize myself and my class. Vyvanse has helped with that, tremendously. I'll admit that was scared to death to take an amphetamine. I don't even like taking advil, but this medicine has helped me with what used to be great difficulty navigating a day. I feel less social anxiety, more focus, and am generally better able to let certain thing go, whereas the little annoyances of life used to wear me out. I arrive at work at 7:00 am and usually take it then. this allows me time to wind down at night, so I can sleep.I was worried about that "dirty amphetamine" feeling, but this feels mostly normal; just a gentle hum in my body. Although all medicines work differently for all people, Vyvanse along with cognitive behavioral therapy, has given me the opportunity to take control of my life. I have never felt this balanced before! Side effects I have experienced are: slight stomach discomfort, dry mouth, and loss of appetite. I make sure to eat a small breakfast when I take it, eat small healthy snacks regularly during the day, and drink water like there's no tomorrow. Overall, I am very satisfied with my experience thus far.Read More Read Less

I started treatment for serious adult ADHD 10 years ago. Tried Concerta (6 yrs); Adderall (3 yrs); & now Vyvanse (6 mo.). Concerta and Adderall both worked for me,however Vyvanse was was different. It was suggested as longer acting, albiet "a bit" weaker substitute. It is weak. For me, it has no effect on napping, losing keys, forgetting things, setting priorities, etc become greater challenges. It's actually difficult feel whether you'd taken it after a few months..i.e.to determine when tolerance is developing. Therefore, my Doc has me take two weeks off every 3 months to loose any biological tolerance. During that period I use Concerta and make up for lost time/misdirected priorities. It may work for my mother, a 110 lb lady who at 90 is in good health, but I do not recommend for serious adult ADHD treatment if you are an otherwise healthy 190+ male who's doctor coordinate treatment with your cardiologist. Each of these medicines has their carefully determined place, I'd conclude. In my case, at least I gave it a fair try, and I do feel it may be useful for some patients.Read More Read Less

This is a miracle drug. It improves anyones life with or without adhd or add. The side effects are being emotional at night and feeling a little down. In the day, a person can get so much done because they feel energetic, social, and happy.
