Vyvanse is a new drug on the market the is very similair to Adderall XR. Like any ADHD medication, this drug does raise one's heart rate and will have an affect on one's stomach. Something that I do is open up the capsule and pour the contents into apple sauce. The mixture of the food and the medication makes it a lot easier on the stomach. The common misconception is that you need the capsule, bu...

Story: I had taken 20MGs Vyvanse as a kid for ADHD, it worked great and soon I was the smartest kid in my whole class, eventually it just stopped working around middle school so I stopped taking it, and my grades went back down to being barely passing. Sophomore year in Highschool, I decided to try it again because I was failing all my classes because I could never stay focused in class, I asked m...

I have been taking Vyvanse for approximately 3 years for ADD. When I started my first year in college I was at 40 mg. However at 40 mg I could not focus and I would get distracted very easily. I also ended up with many C's during my first semester of college so my psychiatrist decided to increase the dose to 60 mg. I was really hoping that at 60 mg would help me a lot to a significant point but instead it just backfires. Although it does help to keep me awake, I literally still can NOT focus and I am constantly zoning out whenever I am trying to study. I find myself zoning out very often than when I was still at 40 mg. Ever since at 60 mg, my ability to respond and think in a timely manner has been declining very significantly (and I feel it gets worse as time passes). My memory has also been declining that I often would struggle trying to remember whatever I am supposed to remember for the exams. I am on academic probation now and I am at risk of being suspended if I do not improve within the semester. On the other hand, it has also slowed down my speech very significantly that I would end up with very slurred speech and I would constantly struggle talking to people and speaking in coherent sentences. I'm also having motor tics (and I have been ridiculed), appetite loss (and likely have lost some weight), irregular sleep schedule, increasing anxiety, and even eye bloodshots. The side effects are becoming severe and I have been taking 60 mg for a year already and it seriously took me long enough to realize that it is the Vyvanse that's causing all of the side effects enough that the Vyvanse has harmed me much more than has it ever helped me. I'm desperately trying to find another psychostimulant that is just right for me. As the result of Vyvanse, I've lost my confidence social-wise, I've been humiliated, I feel very unintelligent, and I am at risk of destroying my future. This Vyvanse has taken away the huge part of myself that I am not who I used to be anymore.Read More Read Less

Actually, I am going thru menopause. I have had a terrible time with ADD, focusing and finishing any task. I am truly able to control these symptoms with Vyvanse

We started my son, age 7, on this as a last resort when different behavior management methods didn't work anymore and we got as far as we could go with his counselor, a social worker. He also has autism with the ADHD. He has been on it almost 3 months. The first day he was on it, there was an immediate change in his demeanor--he was quiet, no sparkle in his eye, mouth twitching, but very agreeable. I was nervous about the mouth twitching but the second day seemed better. For a while, his teacher reported he was more focused, HE said he felt more focused, and the med was obviously effective for that and decreasing his impulsivity. However his autistic obsessions became more pronounced and intense. He also was more irritable and angry. The past few weeks, the 20mg dose seemed like it was working anymore. His teacher reported that she was seeing the same kind of behaviors she saw at the beginning of the year and then we had some episodes at home where he was completely out of control and with a crazed look in his eye. We were close to calling for outside emergency help. Finally he refused to take the meds which I didn't want to give him anymore anyway. He did mostly ok at school that day until about the last half hour where his teacher reported he was grabbing things from people and spitting. The following morning he was hard to awake, but it was much better than the previous morning. Each day we just have to take it one minute at a time--like walking on eggshells. We are going to try a new therapist soon and a center that takes a team approach including a psychiatrist. His pediatrician prescribed the vyvanse, and I really don't recommend that route at all. She's very knowledgable, but still, a psychiatrist would be better suited to toying with any medication issues, imo. Other side effects we saw--headaches, oh and definitely my son is skin and bones and he was a skinny, bad eater to begin with. His clothes hang off him. Bad stuff, imo.Read More Read Less

I am 18 years old, though 19 in a month, 5'2 and weigh about 118. I've been on this drug for about 30 days now and have noticed a great effect. I am on 30 mg a day and can say that it has really helped my ADD. I feel much more focused during work find that I am able to grasp tasks that used to be much harder for me. There are a few side effects, I find myself rarely hungry anymore, and if I take it on an empty stomach I find that I can feel slightly nauseous. Depending on what time I take it at I can sometimes have trouble sleeping. I usually take ti at about 12 and usually it wears off by about 4. I do tend to sometimes take two since 30 mg doesn't always do it for me, (On Saturdays I work a ten hour shift with no break and find that I need to take them to be able to focus.) Other than that I am able to feel like a much happier person when on them and I highly recommend it. Read More Read Less

On vyvanse for 2 years. For add. Also has helped my anger management . I don't get as paranoid or over think hypothetical negative results. First pill first day was like an awakening. It has exacerbated my insomnia. If I drink too much alchohol -forget sleep.

Adult female in my 40's. Diagnosed with ADD, no hyperactivity. Took for 6 months. Doctor said result should be like a "wow, this has changed my life for the better" very quickly. I never experienced that. It did help me become a little more focused and energetic. Side effects were horrible dry mouth, mini-panic/anxiety attacks over silly things, attempting to multi-task too many things at once. So, I will say it helped, but didn't make my life very different The only total positive was I lost almost 20lbs while hitting the gym hard and taking this. Once I reduced dosage, took a break from it temporarily, and just overall time, the weight has come/is coming back. I think it just stops helping after a certain length of time. I took 30, 50, and 70 dosages throughout my timeRead More Read Less

Having ADD, I take the 70mg dosage ("high"), and would like to put out a warning: like many medicines, this drug covers one problem but causes others. The side effects--which, in me, resemble the flu without a fever--can be pervasive and debilitating. Sure, you can focus, but your headache might still give you trouble in class! My honest opinion? If you can handle feeling sick every day, then this drug is absolutely worth it. It is very effective at suppressing both ADHD and ADHD-I.

Did terrible in school till I was prescribed vyvanse after trialing adderall that caused me to not sleep and eat and caused hives and itching and weight loss and sometimes slight halucinations like think i see something out of the corner of my eye but after taking vyvanse and finding the correct dosage I feel alot better but there are some side effects like dry mouth and diareah and sometimes rapid heart beat (if not taken in a while) but not often and some sleep problems and lastly weight loss but mostly from loss of hunger but it can be fixed as long as your make sure your eating regularly. But in reality there will always be side effects so overall vyvanse is good for me Read More Read Less

When I first starting taking this medication it made my heart pound through my chest and I was unable to sleep for 2 days. I was able to adapt to it and it began working well. I felt as though I was able to concentrate, multi task and complete tasks. I did like that it curbed my appetite, but sleep remained an issue. The doctor lowered my dose. I found that I was irritable, often blowing up at my kids (not like me) I was impatient and started to have small episondes of depression. I recently decided to go off this medication, since I started having bad headaches and found out my blood pressure was elevated. I never had a single episode of high blood pressure! This drug is very scary, and really changed my moods!Read More Read Less

The listed side effect of a false sense of well being is and will be the only sense of well being I will ever get. My Psychiatrist prescribed it off label or whatever the term is. For my depression, as I became less and less able to do even simple things, make phone calls or write this. It works for 6 or so hours. I am able to do things people take for granted. But I also read a side effect was taste could be effected and that has begun. I can't eat because of the taste in my mouth and my teeth feel weird. I need to lose weight.Read More Read Less

This has completely transformed me. I was scatter brained, moody, and couldn't focus at all. I was in a bad relationship situation, but I couldn't even focus long enough to try to correct things. After taking this medication, it completely allowed me to be way more focused and organized. not only was I able to finally break free of a bad situation, but it has allowed me to focus in my career. I am an IT project manager, and I regularly hear about how "organized" I am, and how everything gets out to everyone on time, etc. I still keep looking around because I can't believe they are talking about me! The few side effects that I occasionally get (small headaches every once in a while, a weird tingly feeling in my stomach once in a while, and lots of yawning later in the evening when it starts to wear off) are minor and do not detract from the good things that this medication does. I have clinical depression. I take 100mg Pristiq 70mg Vyvanse and 15mg Abilify. Without Vyvanse I would be sleeping all day. It works. I do get light-headed often but I think that is from the Abilify.
