I was assessed for and diagnosed with severe adult ADHD (inattentive type) after years of incorrect depression and bipolar diagnosis and treatment. The psychiatrist who evaluated and diagnosed me decided to start me on dexamfetamine (dextroamphetamine) and lisdexamfetamine (Vyvanse) before other medications like Ritalin and Clonadine to see if that helped. I was highly reluctant to take them as I did not want to be on stimulants due to worrying about potential addiction and also suffering from panic disorder and anxiety disorder my whole life, but I took a 30mg capsule after a few days to see if it would help or cause issues, and the change was astounding. I could think clearly and focus properly for the first time in my life, and what I thought had been depression disappeared almost instantly. I didn't get any anxiety, elevated heart rate, or any of the adverse effects listed, and it didn't interfere with my sleep or appetite. I had my friends and family tell me I was a different person: happier, more focused, and more organized. I was slowly increased to 70mg a day and dexamfetamine 5mg up to six times a day if needed. And it has changed my life in a highly positive way. I still have not had any adverse effects. I also stopped them twice for a week to check for any withdrawal that may indicate addiction, but other than becoming less focused again, I had no issues. I am amazed at the change Vyvanse has made, as well as learning everything I could about managing ADHD. I am still getting extremely positive effects after a year and a half and have been able to focus on university study and work, and I can multi-task now when I couldn't focus on one task correctly all my life. I was on 70mg last month but that was too strong so I changed today to 60mg and adderall 20mg for the afternoon and a 1mg of Xanax for bedtime. I took my medication and feel better. I’ve been off my medication for a week and a half because I have swallowing issues for months now. Finally got a GI and have to do an echocardiogram next week. I’ve been on vyvanse and adderalland adderal XR for as many as 10-14 years. I love vyvanse because it’s smooth feeling. But sometimes in the late afternoon it starts to wear off so my doctor added a 10mg tab of dextroamphetanmine to keep me going till I wind down and go to bed

I feel great after taking vyvanse, I no longer overthink or procrastinate, and I’m much more motivated and on task with anything! but it usually only worked for me when taken on an empty stomach or after not eating for a while, once I eat the effects go away, and I can’t take another dose for lots of hours which isn’t very good for everyday use.

My son is 8 and lisdexamfetamine seemed to make him angry. He was worse on this medicine than before. We put him on 10 mg one month and then 20 mg for 1 month. His behavior got so much worse and he was extremely angry and mean while on it. Our 15 year old daughter is on 50 mg lisdexamfetimine/Vyvanse and it is very helpful for her. You can tell when she doesn’t take her medicine in the afternoon especially. So this medicine definitely depends on the child. It head horrible for our son. The anger side effect was really bad. After two months even with a change in the prescription by my doctor. Vyvanse has little to no effect with no side effects, however. If I experience irritation, it's due to how much better I have felt, my doctor refusing to work with me (I'm of course not sure, but it seems she is not 'up' on the myriad of ADHD meds available.) Basically, I feel as if I ran into a brick wall.

I have been on Adderall, Ritalin and few others. None of which helped. My DR recommended Vyvanse and I believe I have my miracle drug. It has cleared up my brain fog, helped with my social anxiety and eating habits. I see many posts here were people are dissatisfied with Vyvanse. I speak from experience when I say that you have to keep trying different medication until you find the one that works for you. Ritalin helps a lot of ADHD sufferers but it did nothing for me. I have also learned that everybody's body reacts differently to medications. I have also learned that I need weekend vacations from the medication. That works best for me. Read More Read Less

I don’t like this drug at all especially now that it’s about to be generic, I can only imagine. It only curbs my appetite for the first week.I can only imagine. Adderall XR plus Adderall IR work much better for weight control.

Started on concerta but didn't help with my binge eating so got switched to Vyvanse 30mg didn't notice much of a difference so bumped up to 40mg for 2 months. Down 7lbs was working well while I was working kept my mind busy so I wasn't obsessing over everything especially food. Recently bumped up to 50mg as I'm off work and a few days in has made a huge difference I'm not constantly thinking about food. It hasn't made me super emotional or angry. Somedays my head jus feels kinda numb but it's not terrible, I do have more energy most days some not so much, i am more focused. Overall I'd recommend it. I have been on Vyvanse for over 11 yrs! This is NOTHING like the name brand. If the name brand of Vyvanse doesn't become available again, I'm finding something else, I will not continue to waste my money on this crap!

I've been rotating between Adderall XR and Vyvanse for nearly 11yrs. Both of these medications do help some with my focus and ability to work, hold down a job and complete tasks. However there's a limited window of time in which I can take advantage of these effects. Adderall seems to last about 4-5hrs from the time I take it and the Vyvanse lasts about 5-6hrs. Neither of them will get me through a full 8 or 12hr day and both will become less and less effective the longer I take them. After a few months it seems almost necessary to switch from one medication to the other to get the positive effects. It can also help to take a vacation from the medications from time to time just for a few days to kind of Detox from them so that they will work again once you resume taking them. The withdrawal is no joke though so if you're planning to take a break from the meds, I suggest that you have a few days off work and that you don't expect to accomplish anything significant other than catching up on massive amounts of sleep. My MD prescribed Vyvanse due to the Adderrall shortage. Also, I had experienced negative side effects using Focalin. Vyvanse started out okay - my ADHD symptoms improved. However, I have been very irritable, mildly depressed and paranoid … it is getting worse and worse, so much so that my husband said he wanted his ‘old wife back.’ My marriage is now doing poorly due to my outbursts. I have had aches every morning, something I have never experienced. And also I am Overeating every evening! It seems like the drug wears off and his a rebound effect. The overeating tipped me Off to looking here for other experiences. I read through the comments about paranoia, irritability and felt such a sense of relief that it is the drug, not me. Does the job well, but the side effects far outweigh how good my grades are. I feel miserable every day. Constantly thirsty, always sweaty, always paranoid, regardless of if I take it with food or not.

I was diagnosed with narcolepsy with cataplexy and started taking 30 mg of Vyvanse a day in the mornings. This dose did practically nothing for me as I still had extreme fatigue and difficulty staying alert and focused. I bumped up to 40 mg and it made no difference. Ultimately I reached 70 mg in the morning and felt improvement. For the first 5-6 hours I wasn’t sleepy and had good energy. Once early afternoon hit I felt like I needed a nap. My energy decreased significantly. Unfortunately this medication hasn’t been successful in helping me stay less tired for the whole day. It wears off rather quick. My doctor originally prescribed Adderall XD which was great at helping me manage my symptoms, however, it also felt a bit “staccato” in my brain, a bit buzzy, and I felt irritated more easily, and quicker to anger. Switching to Vyvanse felt good to me, my symptoms under control (at the lowest dose even) without that “edgy” feeling of Adderall.

A comparison to adderall. After being diagnosed with ADHD I started Vyvanse after 2 months of experimenting with Adderall and Adderall XR. Adderall immediate release (15 mg 2x) was a profound breakthrough. My brain fog disappeared and I felt like I had my life back. But it was very aggressive. Even at lower doses, I could feel my heart pounding in my chest, appetite was gone, and, while I could focus, it took a ton of effort to direct my mind to tasks. In general - the stimulant was a success. My Dr. switched me to Adderall XR (15mg) to reduce the number of times I'd have to remember to take a pill. While XR is supposed to leave the system at 12 hours, it didn't seem to for me. Sleeping was impossible, and additional medications (Trazadone, Ambien) for sleep were having little effect. This is my first week on Vyvanse. I can say it is a MUCH more pleasant experience than Adderall. Adderall was like plugging my finger in a light socket and trying to hold on. Tremors and tweakyness into the night even at a lower dose. Vyvanse still causes mild tremors in the first few hours after I take it, but by 8 hours in, it seems integrated. The first few months I took Vyvanse it worked great. I noticed the 4 month that the med seemed not to work as well. I actually thought my dr gave me a placebo.

I am a 17 year old male. Worked well for about 2 weeks. Now i have started getting extremely anxious, second guessing everything. feel very withdrawn and emotionless. Racing thoughts and insomnia. feel like my mind is all over the place. Cannot socialise and am extremely irritable. Wouldn’t recommend.

I took this for a few months for ADHD, it helped me concentrate, but it caused SEVERE depression with suicidal ideation and anxiety. It was scary, I thought I was going to lose my life. I stopped when I realized it was the Vyvanse, and the suicidal ideation ceased... but the depression took several months to come out of.

I am a mom of an 8-year-old, who has ADHD. We just finally bit the bullet and talked to our pediatrician about medication for our child. We did this as a last resort because it will take almost a year to get him into see a pediatric psychiatrist. I didn't want my child to be a guinea-pig, I wanted direct psychiatric recommendations for his condition. Over the last year he has had behavioral problems at school. He is not an angry, aggressive child, but he is very talkative, easily distracted, cannot focus (he also has Dyslexia). Our Pedi recommended Vyvanse! I did research on several medications before we even went to his appointment, so I was familiar with V. I didn't want to send my child to school the next day and not know how this medication affected him, so I gave him his first dose (30mg) which I think is high for a first timer; at about 4pm.BIG MISTAKE This is an absolute first for us, so here is what happened. Extreme talkativeness (almost like he was on meth/crack) all night long! Anxiety, he kept talking about needing to get to school to do all his work and show his teachers that he can do things, and that he wants to just read and read and write. This is coming from a child that cannot read, spell or write because of his dyslexia. Seems helpful, but the anxiety he felt wasn't appealing. He had insomnia (he didn't sleep the entire night) he finally crashed about 6:30 in the morning. He was like "sped up" all night. So I made the mistake of giving it at that time, but I am glad we got to see how it affected him. He did say his stomach felt "fluttery" not painful just "weird. I knew any medications were going to be alarming, so I plan to continue for a few days and see how he does (I am so scared to send him to school) because of the "talkativeness" he literally cannot stop!
