I have been unable to take any of the osteoporosus drugs for the past several years. Reclast is working for me both as an easier application, once a year, and better health. One thing I have noticed is that my fingernails no longer break and are becoming hard. The same with my toenails. I took Reclast 2 months ago and so far so good. My veins are very tiny and hard to find so I take the IV in...

I am a 55 yr old post bilateral mastectomy/hysterectomy patient with osteoporosis. My docs had recommended reclast. When I read about the side effects I decided to wait (I have severe allergies), but when my 82 year old mother with lupus (who also has severe allergies) took the infusion with no problem I thought I would give it a try. I received the infusion at 11 am. By 11 pm I had severe head, jaw and strenum pain. I also had pain in my thighs and my joints were very sore. All through the night uncontrollably shaking from chills (no sleep). The symptoms improved but it took a few days and the joint pain persists a month after my treatment. My GP said if I can boost Vit D levels (currenlty 28-30) I would have fewer symptoms. Also, they would make the infusion time longer versus 15 minutes. I am not sure if I will have another infusion...I am waiting to see what my bone density scan looks like! (ps I consume huge amounts of water daily but this did not seem to help me).Read More Read Less

This is the worse drug ever prescribed. I had an infusion 2 days ago, and can't walk, lift my arms, turn my neck or bend over without pain. I feel very sick and can't leave my home. I am a very active person, still working, and walking 3 miles a day, and do yoga and Pilates. It's the first time I took it because the doctor changed me from Prolia. I will never take this again. This should be recalled and not prescribed, it's not worth it. I hate that I went through with it and hope I don't have long term effects and can get back to my regular routine.Read More Read Less

I am 60 years old and had my first Reclast infusion 3 weeks ago after completing two years of daily Tymlos injections. I was good for about 12 hours after the infusion and then felt like I was hit by a ton of bricks! Severe muscle pain which made it hard to roll over, sit up, take a deep breath. It almost felt like I had broken my back again (did so 2 years ago). After reading everyone's experiences I just started getting fearful that it wasn't going to go away! It took about two days for the symptoms to start to subside slightly and then my knees started to hurt when I went up and down stairs. I had the infusion on a Friday morning. My back and muscle pain were much better by Tuesday but not completely back to the usual. My knee pain resolved by Friday. I didn't feel fully back to normal for a solid week but now I feel 100 percent. I did not hydrate before hand (it was so early in the am, and I didn't want to set a middle night alarm to hydrate) but did take Tylenol which didn't seem to do much. Read More Read Less

I have read others reviews before agreeing to an annual infusion of Reclast. There are a lot of reviews against using the drug. I was happy to find some positive reviews and want to share my results. I did as others stated, drink plenty of water previous day and the day of. I took Tylenol (2, 500mg) half hour prior to my appointment. That evening I felt quite tired. Woke the next day with the slightest ache between my shoulder blades. This writing is two days later and I have no side effects at all. It is a tough decision, the side effects vs fractures. I just wanted to give a positive to this forum.Read More Read Less

I am a 60 year old woman. I had Reclast infusion 4 days ago. Woke up day after thinking I had a crick in neck. 4 days later it is almost unbearable pain on the side and back of my head. Norco has helped with pain only got 4 hours and it’s back. Very scary. Day 2 and 3 I felt very flu-like also with extreme nerve pain in my buttocks. That subsided Day 4. My head pain is pretty difficult to bear and the Norco I took about an hour ago hasn’t begun to touch it. I think I probably need to go to ER or my doctor tomorrow. I fear it’s done something in my head. Never experienced this kind of pain for so long. I wanted to share and also ask if anyone else has had the same symptom. Read More Read Less

I've had 3 annual infusions now, after becoming unable to tolerate fosamax pills due to stomach issues. I have never felt a single thing after an infusion. Nothing. I was reluctant to take it, but my bone density fell sharply after 3 years without fosamax. Now it hasn't changed a bit in 3 years--totally worth it to me to still be able to mount a defense for my bad bones.

I have been experiencing extreme joint pains from my ankles to my shoulders and every joint since taking Reclast. I never had this problem before having this drug in my body. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have this again.

I received Reclast by infusion a few weeks ago for borderline osteoporosis. I am 68, but I’m having a problem with this website, because it only is letting me say I am 19 to 24. I came here to say that I only had some minor reactions, and I think that if you are seeing a lot of negative views it’s because people are more likely to comment if they’ve had a problem. I really do feel for them, but I want to make sure people who need the infusions aren’t discouraged from getting them. If you are concerned about side effects or you start having them, I would encourage you to take some Tylenol or call your doctor if you’re one of the people who have any worst reaction. I was asked beforehand if I had any upcoming dental work possibly due to an infection or if I thought I had any dental infections, because they said I shouldn’t do the infusion if that was the case. I only felt extra tired and slightly warm the night of the infusion and until the afternoon of the next day. I understand that many people have no reaction, at all. However, you need to decide for yourself what risk level you can handle. I decided that I’d rather prevent a broken hip than worry too much about the risk of jaw issues or some of the other possible side effects. The reason that I had had the infusion of Reclast is that I had been taking alendondrate (generic Fosomax) for two years, but I wasn’t consistent with it, because I had had an episode of intestinal bleeding due to NSAIDS. The alendondrate had worked a bit, but my latest scan showed I was still borderline.Read More Read Less

Due to the HRT panic I was taken off HRT by my Dr. Even though I had no history of heart ,cancer or stroke …so now 15 years later at 72 Reclast …this is my 3rd day in bed after receiving my infusion I’m due back to work in 2 days, I hope I can make it, I don’t get paid sick time. Day 1, Side effects ranged from severe pain, muscle spasms, unrelenting headache , nausea and vomiting. Day2,my hands are wrapped in compression bandages The pain and weakness is frightening. Chills, chattering teeth abdominal pains and trouble walking. Day3, hands still wrapped and weak, can’t turn my head feels like my vertebra are fused together, muscle spasms in my rt foot ,exhaustion, listlessness. My conclusion first the drug company starts a panic on cheap HRT which could have prevented osteoporosis then come up with a very expensive treatment that may or may not work but so what, we’re just people they are making big money from. Good luck fellow Reclast users.Read More Read Less

I have had 2 infusions of relcast. Since getting them my kidney GFR gas gone from in the 70's to 50. I don't plan on doing this again. It's like you trade off one illness for another. I take my chances with a broken bone before taking meds that could cause me to eventually end up on kidney dialysis.

I am a breast Cancer survivor and have family history of osteoporosis. I do not like taking pills so I opted for the infusion. The day I got the infusion I had no issues. The next morning I woke to shortness of breathe, chills, headache, ribs hurts, back hurting, jaw hurting, hips and thighs hurting. This is day 2 and the pain has lessened some. 2nd day of missed work. I have found red bumps on my neck and stomach. I got no information about this drug before hand. I called my Dr and was told drive plenty of fluids and take tylenol for the pain. Everyone is different so research all your medication.Read More Read Less

I am a 64 year old, breast cancer triple positive. Treatment was radiation, chemotherapy and herceptin. Currently taking aromasin. This was my second medication round for osteoporosis. Took Zometa round one and just finished first Reclast. Not sure of the effectiveness yet. Next bone scan in two years. Make sure to research, drink fluids, and take needed medications to help with immediate side effects. I had very mild bone pain and general malaise for a few days. No severe side effects. We are all different and need to make choices that work for us as individuals. Keeping my fingers crossed for good results! And for each of you! Read More Read Less

I have the infusion in November 2019. Healthy 65 year old with no issues. No advice on what to do prior to infusion. Bad severe pain between shoulders blades and could hardly walk. Two trips to the ER and they tested me for other things (negative) and tried to flush it out of my body both times. Almost 3 years later I still have pain between my shoulder blades in the same place and have to take pain meds every afternoon. Will never recommend. Obviously changed drs and new dr said Prolia has proven much more effective and safe. Read More Read Less

I had my infusion 5 days ago. I am 52, 4"10 and 85 lbs. I have a rare form of muscular dystrophy putting me at risk of falls. I researched Reclast and decided the benefits exceeded the risks. I took Tylenol an hour before the infusion and every 6 hours after. For the two days after the infusion I had NO effects. On day 3 and 4 I had pain in my hip and knee but today is day 5 and that pain is gone. I do suspect it has affected my blood pressure - its been unusually high making my head pound. I already had high BP. I am seeing my Primary doc today to assess. Overall - I am very relieved my side effects were so minimal. Read More Read Less

I am a 67 year old female with osteoporosis. Very much like another 67 year old reporting here I was given no notice of dental work. In fact I got no information until I sat down in the infusion chair. Any side effects were made to sound gentle. The day after infusion I awoke in extreme pain of the knees and cannot walk. I can crawl. I see a new GP today, poor dear, as I present myself in such a terrible state. If I had found these reviews before treatment I would not have had it. I have lost employment days. Will I be able to walk again? It is day 4 and I pray for any kind of relief.Read More Read Less

I am a 67-year-old female with osteoporosis. I debated having this treatment for over a year but my family practitioner finally convinced me to try it. I received no instructions prior to the treatment I had on 4/4/22. The day I received the treatment I was fine. The next morning I had severe pain in my back & sides. Later that night I started having chills, shivering so back my teeth were clacking & running a fever of 101.5 for the next 3 days. I was so weak I could not get out of bed by myself for 3 days. I started having diarrhea, no appetite. On day 5 I started having extreme joint pain in all of my fingers & toes. I actually have red bumps on several of my finger knuckles. My hands are swollen (difficult to type this). I am a retired RN. No one told me that you need to have dental work done prior to this IV infusion. I have daily headaches. My family provider keeps telling me the symptoms will go away.... Read More Read Less

I had my first Iv infusion of reclast 3 days ago. I was not a candidate for oral treatments because of a history of acid reflux. I was very nervous after reading the negative experiences so many have had. It took me at least 6 months to agree to the treatment. I am 69-year-old postmenopausal, Caucasian women, diagnosed with osteoporosis ( T score -3 .12) , weighing in at a whopping 103 lbs. and stand 5'4". I have Parkinson's disease which puts me at a higher risk for falls. I'm also a retired nurse. I took care of many folks over the years who had suffered fractures as a result of osteoporosis. My mother in law was about bent over in half with it before she passed away. In sum, I decided the risks of treatment outweighed the risk of doing nothing. I had zero problems after the infusion. On reading reviews, I did hydrate well and took Tylenol for about 24 hours, just in case. Honestly, I had zero adverse reaction to the infusion. Longer term, I have no answers for. I am hoping for long term good results. If I can find my way back here, I'll report any adverse effects I feel for those who have had bad reactions but, l also wanted to share my experience which thus far has been good. Be well and good luckRead More Read Less
