I have been battling with my Ulcerative Colitis for 4 years now. I started with 6 pills of Asacol. I could not stand taking that many pills in one day. Then I went to Canasa suppositories that was not enough. It was not reaching high enough in my colon to treat the Colitis. Now I have been on Lialda, 4 pills a day, for 1 year. Went off of it and just did the Canasa for 2 years and then went...

This is my first day on this medication. My doctor gave me some samples to try and when I opened the first blister, I smelled a foul odor. I was just wondering if this was normal? Has anyone else experienced this?

I had diverticulosis and after about 16 yrs. had a colon resection with perfect results. After a few flareups my doc put me on Lialda. I have taken 2 a day for over a year now. I never read all the reviews on this site but now I see hair loss and joint pain are issues. In the last 4 or 5 months I have had hair loss in the crown area, no where else. Joint/muscle ache I have attributed to Lipitor...maybe it is the Lialda. I still am extremely happy with this medication but have just found out my medicare Rx plan (which will start in Jan.) will not cover Lialda. I am nervous about switching drugs and I think when I mentioned it to the nurse she said asacol would be covered. After reading all the reviews I am going to figure out something so I can remain on Lialda.Read More Read Less

I was originally perscribed to Asacol and at my best was taking 2 pills three times a day. I would have a yearly severe flair up so we switched to Lialda which is 4 pills in the morning. Much easier to use, so far I have had one minor flair up and one major because it had been so long I forgot what it felt like and let it go too long. This like the other was caused by trying to use supplements to cure myself. Other than joint stiffness I have had no side effects. I reccomend staying active to keep your joints loose. Lialda works for me and I'll stick to it hoping to decrease dosage soon. Read More Read Less

Just diagnosed with UC a little over a week ago. My only symptoms were slight cramps and rectal bleeding. Started Lialda a week ago and within 2 days the bleeding had stopped and I felt great. I'm taking 3 pills every morning and a package of VSL#3 DS probiotics each evening. Absolutely no side effects. I think this is a miracle drug. Apparently I had been sick for a long time but it was so gradual I didn't realize it. Hoping not to have to stay on it forever, but we'll see. :-)

I was diagnosed with Crohn's about 2 years ago. I am completely a-symtematic, thank goodness. Doc put me on Asacol, couldn't tolerate it. Went on Lialda. Done well, except for much gas and shoulder pain, which seem to go together. I quit taking it a while ago, doc said gotta take something. Put me on Aprio, I stopped that after 4 days. Doc agreed to 1 lialda a day. Same effects, though. Had ultra sound, CT scan, chest x-ray, all showed clean. Other than that.........been taking things for gas, so far so good.Read More Read Less

20+ yrs of colitis using mesalamine, enemas, 5 asa drugs, dr suggested switching to lialda from asacol for ease of use (16 pills a day spaced out vs 4 pills once a day). After 3 days in hospital finally realized I am allergic to lialda but symptoms mimic uc so we didnt catch it until I almost died. SEVERE muscle pain, joint pain, 30+ times a day in bathroom. no matter what drug you are on always read possible side effects. even great gi doctors dont know your body like you do so pay attention to your body and changes in your disease and make sure your doctor listens to you. a conversation with my docotr saved my life.Read More Read Less

I have had UC for about 27 years; recently hospitalized with severe bleeding, renal failure, anemia, blood pressure loss. Got on asacol but too expensive; switched to lialda, 2 a day, no symptons except that I am losing a lot of hair. Anyone else with this side effect, and does it stop eventually?

It seems to work for me. Started it 7 months ago. I do have some hair loss. As far as other side effects...haven't noticed any. I take 2 pills 2.4 grams total daily. Never tried any other treatment. But with the hair loss I experience....I thought about changing. But it works and I feel semi-normal again. Trade-offs I guess

I've had chrons disease since I was 22 years old, diagnosed after the birth of my first child, over 30 years ago. The dr did not know exact what it was, and finally diagnosed Chrons by process of elimination. I've been on plenty of med, including prednisone, imuran last. I have been taking this med for 2 wks. I must say the side effects are horrible. I've never felt like this before. I may have a mild case, normal bathroom experiences. Please eat dairy, salad, raw veggies etc only in moderation. My neck and shoulders was hurting so bad, i thought it was my BP going crazy. However your coments has explained to me why my head is about to explode, the dizziness, the fatigue and near blackouts. This may work for other people, but i don't think this is the med for me. It appears it's helping a lot of people. Please pray for a cure, especially for the teens that get this dreadful diseaseRead More Read Less

I have had UC all my life, but nothing was done for me. Four years ago, I got so bad, I had to quit my job. I have been on Lialda since Sept of this year. With Welchol,Entocort EC and Methscopolam. I have been a normal person, for the last four months. Thank you so much.

I have been taking Lialda for mild to moderate Chrohn's for almost two years and it is the best I have felt in a very, very long time. If I miss a round I can feel the difference. This combined with Aciphex has changed my life.

Diagnosed with UC a year ago. Rare flare-ups, but I stil have about 4 bm a day, usually before noon. My doctor suggested to try upping the amount to 4 pills a day for a month. So, i kept a log, less bm a day about 50% of the time. I am also on Align. tried stopping that for a while, no difference. Tried no diary, no caffeine, no changes to # of BM. Other suggestions? My doc has not been monitoring my kidney functions, good to read about that.
