I have been battling with my Ulcerative Colitis for 4 years now. I started with 6 pills of Asacol. I could not stand taking that many pills in one day. Then I went to Canasa suppositories that was not enough. It was not reaching high enough in my colon to treat the Colitis. Now I have been on Lialda, 4 pills a day, for 1 year. Went off of it and just did the Canasa for 2 years and then went...

This is my first day on this medication. My doctor gave me some samples to try and when I opened the first blister, I smelled a foul odor. I was just wondering if this was normal? Has anyone else experienced this?

This med contains sulfasalazine. I am allergic to sulfa and apparently to this derivative. I did not feel at all well the three days I took it and developed a rash and a big blister. Yes,I did advise my doctor of my sulfa allergy.

I was diagnosed with Chrones Disease at age 22. I am now 38 and noticed severe changes in my colon health in the last 3 years. Stress is the BIGGEST trigger!! After taking ASacol for many years my Dr. suggested Lialda. It has worked better than Asacol ever did. I have normal BM every day. No more blood. No more pain. I'm back to work and feeling better than ever.

I had tried Asacol and Colazol and neither of those worked for me at all. My doctor put me on Lialda 2 pills a day about 6 years ago and I was better within 2 months. In those 6 years I have only had one minor flare and feel better now than I ever have since being diagnosed with UC.

Was put on this medication after being sick for WEEKS and finding out i have ulcerative colitis along my entire large colon. Dr told me to take 4.8gr a day to initiate remission (4 pills)until furter notice. Yes the pills are quite large, but if you take them with plenty of water, it's really not that big of a deal. I am hoping that once i have been in remission for a while, my Dr will put me on the 'maintenance' does, which is only 2 pills. The pills are also kind of expensive. BUT, if you go to the Lialda manufacturer website, you can print out a coupon that will only cost you $10 a month! Less than a bottle of aspirin. I have yet to experience ANY side effects of this drug and it has been 16 days. I also noticed an improvement in symotoms within only a few days. I will write another review once I have been on them a bit longer if i experience anything different.Read More Read Less

I started taking Lialda for a UC flare up. Within 2 days of taking it, my UC symptoms had worsened ten fold! This is a horrible drug that made me even sicker. My doctor took me off of it right away. Mesalamine should be banned!!! Don't take anything with Mesalamine in it, it's like poison!

I was diagnosed in July with Crohn's. My doctor originally put me on 2 a day. Although my episodes were less frequent they were at least 10 times more severe. Since taking this drug my abdominal pain during my episodes have literally left me paralyzed in pain, to the point where I can't move until the pain subsides. Now after recently taking a blood test after 6 months of this drug my doctor said the results show I have extreme inflammation so clearly, this is making my Crohn's worse. My hair is now starting to fall out after about 7 months of use, and I'm only 19. Overall I would avoid this drug at all costs, my doctor wants me to take 4 a day now but I refuse to, I'm currently looking into other options.Read More Read Less

This drug has been very effective for me. 48 year old women diagnosed with UC at age 15. Just started lialda after years of taking nothing and suffering. On Lialda I have normal daily bms after being constipated for years. Feel much better and can eat food I was never able to before. The downside: I have gained 10 lbs in my lower abdominal area within a few months. I constantly feel bloated and despite working out I can't seem to flatten my tummy out. My whole adult life I could never gain weight and then a few months on Lialda it came on out of nowhere. Some minor joint pain too, but I can live with that.Read More Read Less

I have been through a lot over the years. I have cut out gluten and have ulcerative colitis. I take two lailda pills every morning..(1.2gm) I have taken a list of different kinds of medications. My stomach pains, bleeding when I went to the bathroom, no energy, headaches ect where getting out of control. I have had endoscopies, colonoscopies and I’m only 25. It took a few months on lialda and I wasn’t so sure right away because I had a few really bad days and thought it was just making me worse but I stuck with it and now I have less pains, barely get sick after food now and just feel better. I also barely have any blood when I use the bathroom, TMI but it used to be a lot and this was something serious that needed to be controlled. Lialda helped tremendously with that. The only complaint would be I think it’s makes my mouth really dry now and my breathe is starting to bother my boyfriend haha but I will take it to feel better, I just have to make sure I have a lot of mints : ) Also, im not sure if this has anything to do with the pill but I have no sex drive really. You always have to give and take sometimes with medicines and for how much pain I was in its worth everything. No real bad side effects. I would recommend this to everyone in a similar situation. Hopefully, my stomach can heal after a few years and I can get of the pills but for right now they really do help. Also!! Contact your doctor or lialda because it’s really expensive but you can get their coupon card and I only pay 10$ a month!! Read More Read Less

I have been on Lialda for over a year after being diagnosed with crohns. It went to work right away and unless I eat poorly I have no problems at all. I take 3 pills nightly and if I do get a slight flare I just up it to 4 and im good. Love this pill so far. I do have hair loss, fatigue and aches, but that started before I was ever diagnosed with crohns or on Lialda. I am now also on Plaquenil for possible lupus/RA so that might be the culprit of the other symptoms. YOu know immune diseases go hand in hand...Read More Read Less

I've been very fortunate....this has been a miracle drug for me. I had severe colitis and was supposed to be in the hospital but only a few days on this and I was a new person. No side effects at all. Very happy!! I'm hopeful that my Crohn's is going into remission but I was told I will have to take this the rest of my life.

I was prescribed Lialda a week ago Monday (it is now Friday). It was a week to pretty much the exact hour that I started having side effects. The first week it was like nothing had changed. Then on Monday I had one round of diarrhea. On Tuesday I had diarrhea all day (10-20 times per day) plus fever, chills, and muscle aches. We thought I had the flu. On Wednesday I had the same symptoms plus I started throwing up. I had absolutely no appetite and was severely dehydrated, but it was difficult to drink water because if I had one sip too many I would throw up. Then on Thursday I felt slightly better. I had a lower fever, but my diarrhea had become bloody. No longer thinking it was the flu, I called my doctor and told him about the bloody diarrhea to which he asked if I was also experiencing abdominal pain, fever, or chills. Bingo. I went to my primary care physician today as ordered where he told me to get off lialda and he prescribed a corticosteroid. I also had to go do a stool sample so they can try and find out what went wrong. I am SO happy I can stop taking it, but I'm not sure how long it will take before I no longer have these side effects. I just feel bad because it cost $40 with insurance and I only had 11 days' worth. Read More Read Less
