I started on this medication about 8 months ago. At first it was great in preventing my headaches. Still had a few but not as bad as usual. I had every side effect listed. Starting with tingling hands/feet. I felt like my eyes were playing tricks on me. I was always seeing streaking lights or spots. I became very thirsty all the time and nothing tasted good but water. I have lost nearly 22 ...

DO NOT GO ON THIS MEDICATION, I was prescribed this medication for migraines and it has completely ruined my life. When I was on topiramate my arms and legs would go numb and I could not move them, I started to halucinate and have all kinds of mental problems. I also stopped being able to get an erection and lost all sexual feelings what so ever, including acheiving an orgasm. I also developed ...

Do not take this medication. I was prescribed topiramate 25 mg for weight loss. I am a 55 year old female. Was on it for one week and the next day day start feeling depressed, cried every day. It caused memory loss. Drove passed my house three times. Felt confused all day. Could not focus. Did not sleep most of the nights. Felt awful every single day and worse as days went by. It gave me chills and felt as if I had a cold. Pain in my jaw and headaches. How can any doctor prescribe such a medication. Read More Read Less

I started this medication last Friday to help prevent hemepligic migraines . I felt brain fog and confused day 1 after my second dose I noticed at work I was just slow and was having issues formulating words. I was feeling extremely anxious as well. Sunday night after I took it my eyes started hurting and feeling strained and the skin under my eyes felt extremely dry ( I had been over hydrating because doc said too on this med) and burning as if I had wind burn and I hadn’t been outside but to get in and out of my car. Monday morning same confusion, driving was scary I just wasn’t alert, my face was still burning, and having major mood swings I was mad for no reason all day and this continued. Wednesday morning my face was on fire and my eyes were hurting worse so I called my neurologist and they said to stop medication and start taking Benadryl that I was having and allergic reaction. So I have been but the facial burns has moved to my nerves in my face, ears, and neck , head, and shoulders. My skin on my face and lips is now peeling. I also lost feeling in my L foot temporarily while I was trying to walk up stairs. The Benadryl seems to be helping a little and I’m hoping I wake up tomorrow not in any pain. Read More Read Less

I was prescribed this medication to prevent migraines; I did not take it long enough to know if it would work but for me personally it was not worth it and I just want to contribute the side affects I experienced while taking 25mg for 5 nights. The worst for me was the insomnia + dizziness at night. The effect it had on my mental health was overwhelmingly alarming . I have never struggled with my mental health, I just thought maybe I was really upset about my migraines. The fatigue, dizziness, diarrhea, insomnia, loss of train of thought, and depression were too much for me. I could imagine that if the help is better than harm how people could stay on this. I would recommend really do research on a drug before taking it, that was my mistake. Read More Read Less

Topomax has changed my life. The first few weeks I experienced times when my feet would tingle like they were asleep,- but that’s the only side effect. NO MIGRAINES I HAVE MY LIFE BACK AND ITS AMAZING. (…I also dropped 30lbs within 4months just a heads up) I also don’t have a desire to drink alcohol whatsoever. My adhd doctor told me this is also used as a mood stabilizer AND they use it for treatment for alcoholics.-yeah fun fact I guess. NOT LIKE I NEEDED IT FOR THAT,- just figured I’d add that “fun fact”. 6months of taking it and I JUST increased my dose. My taste is now a bit “off”. I’m adding a ton of salt to everything. Example: I ate ramen noodles ( I know gross) and they didn’t seem salty. That’s disgusting!- they’re like pure sodium. My neurologist said people complain about carbonation in drinks or something. I only drink water and tea so I haven’t noticed. Anyhow, Topomax has been absolutely fantastic for preventing my migraines. Thanks for reading. Read More Read Less

Today I was checking reviews to see if I should try this med again. I have had chronic migraines& headaches for 30+ yrs. When this medicine 1st came out I believe it started as a seizure medicine, then headaches. Then Drs started realizing it was great for weight loss also. So my Dr prescibed for both. I had only taken Topamax for a few days. One morning while driving to work,I had only driven maybe half a mile- all of a sudden my vision was super blurry!!!! It was one of scariest things ever. I never took another pill. My sister also had migraines & same happened to her. She was on it way longer, had really bad gull stones and kidney issues unfortunately she took it for a very long time. But after reading these reviews I can see this med has same scary side effects. Read More Read Less

I was on it for only three months during that time I had difficulty walking couldn't wear flip flops and developed what the Dr called Drop Foot. I lost use of the front muscle of my left leg that runs down the shin bone in front and raises and lowers the left foot. My family Dr took me off of it stating after the use of the muscle fully returned I was lucky it could have been permanent! Be Careful! I was on it for Nerve Damage.

While this medication did help me have fewer migraines I agree with the reviews that talk about long term side effects. My migraines were horrible and thank goodness I now manage them in other ways. I took Topamax the better part of ten years. Even though I can’t get a doctor to agree with me I am convinced that this drug is what caused my permanent cognitive impairment. My family has no issues of dementia for generations. My eyesight went bad while taking it. That may have happened anyway so can’t entirely blame the drug. I suffer from severe daytime fatigue, borderline narcoleptic, making it hard to get things done in my life. Honestly if I had know in the beginning what I know now I would have NEVER taken this drug. Wish I had a big do over. I feel bad for the people in my life who have to deal with me and all these things give me terrible anxiety. Read More Read Less

This medication was prescribed to me as an addition to Baclofen, Clonazopam, Endep and to try and help me off 3 years of using Targin after a failed surgery left me with a syrinx in my spine from my lumber to my C1 and permanent full body spasms and spasticity in my left calf and inner ankle. The spasticity was forcing my foot to roll out so badly I was walking on the outside of my foot and using a walking frame. Within a week my foot had flattened out, and that was only half dose, improving when I went to my 2 doses a day. Side effects are not great.. terrible heart burn, brain fog (not good as I am a public speaker) and I forget words, sleeping a lot more, and I have lost a little weight but not badly. Also dry mouth but with all the medication that was bound to happen eventually. I am hoping that Botox may be a longer term alternative but if I can manage the side effects its benefits are well worth it for me. Read More Read Less

I have nothing bjt goos things to say about thod medication. I began having really bad migraines 3-5 times perbweek overb25 yewrs ago and had been taking Imitrex. I hated the side effscts but those were better than having migraines. Now on Topiramate, I've only had a handful of mild migrainebheadaches in thebpast two months. This medication does make me feel drowsy but a cup of coffee or tea helps.

I didn’t realize how effective Topamax was for ice pick headaches until I hadn’t taken it for a few days by accident. They came back with a vengeance. Also I started having terrible restless legs so I was quite miserable. Thankfully I didn’t have any migraine which was also why it was prescribed. Immediately after taking it again the headaches and restless legs stopped. My dose is 100mg. Years ago when my doctor increased the dosage I also stopped having seizures.

This medication was a nightmare and I only took it for 2 days! The 2 days I took it my migraines were worse, I had trouble speaking, I had balance issues, my head felt fuzzy. After not taking it for 2 days I developed seizure like episodes with no history of seizures it's been over a month and I still have these episodes. It made my disorientation worse. I can't even drive anymore. DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICATION!

I have suffered from essential tremors for many years. My grandfather, father, myself and my son have suffered from it. It was so bad that I couldn't write my name without the pen bouncing on the paper like a machine gun. I couldn't eat without throwing my food in the air. My doctor had tried several drugs but nothing worked. The one that worked a little bit I couldn't tolerate. I was getting so discouraged that I almost didn't keep my next appointment. He gave me Topiramate 25mg and it's been working great. I've experienced some dizziness in the morning after taking it but I've gotten used to that. It's not perfect but I feel like I've gotten my life back again and can eat in public without being ashamed. My writing is also much better. I know this might not work for everyone but it's done a lot for me.Read More Read Less

Do not go on this medicine! I have constant bladder pain and get frequent UTI’s. Have been off of this crap for months and I’m still having severe bladder pain. The pharmaceutical company must be paying these doctors big bucks for them to keep prescribing this poison!

I have been on topamax for a little over a year. Helped great with my panic and anxiety but I can't eat. I have lost 50% of my hair. I can't see because my vision gets blurry. The worst part is the nausea all the time. My advice DO NOT TAKE IT

I haven't been on medication in 10+ years but due to some issues I've had with mood swings and anger management my psychiatrist and I decided to put me on topamax 50mg. From the very beginning I had severe side effects ranging from breathing problems, feeling more panicked and anxious, losing consciousness, stuttering. Only 3 months into the medication treatment and I feel like a completely different person

I have been on Topamax for 22 years for Atypical absence seizures and it has worked great. I have experienced the pins and needles feeling for those 22 years and drinking Coke is awful as the medicine has made certain acidic drinks gross. I never had the crazy weight loss like some experience, although I do experience a lack of appetite. This medication does cause brain fog something crazy the longer you take it. I wish I knew what came next though....vision issues, kidney or liver issues? What other side effects will come up the longer I take it? Read More Read Less

Worked well for my sound sensitivity disorder caused by brain injury, the only thing to help. But the side effects were too much to be worth it. Destroyed my mental health. Had extreme anxiety and paranoia episodes, mental breakdowns and crying fits for no reason. Could barely think, concentrate, or process information, felt like I lost IQ points. They call it "dope-amax" for a very good reason. My cognition and drive has not returned to normal. Yes, you will lose weight, but when your body gets used to it or you get off, you'll gain it all back and then some as your metabolism yo-yos back. Lost 10 lbs on the drug only to gain 20 back getting off it, and my metabolism slowed so much I can't lose a pound.Read More Read Less
