I was prescribed this med to help with racing thoughts and it has worked wonders. It has controlled the thoughts and I do not drink nor crave alcohol at all. It is a miracle drug and it is a great weight management pill to boot. Two thumbs up!

After taking Topamax for the first time, it made me feel extremely strange. I got a tingly feeling in my entire head, it gave me a headache, and my whole body felt extremely fatigued. I felt more spaced out than usual, too. It was terrible so I called my doctor that day. He said "You need to try to push through the side effects, they'll subside after a few days." Well, let me tell you, they did no...

I suffer with spinal degeneration that I am supposed to do daily physical therapy for, past head trauma that caused seizures, depression, PTSD, herpes virus', and was prescribed Topiramate "Topamax" for headaches. Topamax is prescribed for many reasons including seizures, depression, involuntary quivering essential tremor or "muscular movements", and binge eating, migraine. I am allergic to a common medication binder, so for me the less medication I take the better and agreed that Topamax is a great choice for me. On 25m I experienced fewer headaches; however, my doctor encouraged me to updose to 150 as recommended. On 50m I experienced: losing short term and long term memory, nosebleed, thought process changes inability to focus or lack of the consistency in my thought process, 75m I. lost my mind and had all the bad side-effects which include: nosebleed, loss of smell and taste that has not returned with the healing of my nose, burning sensation throughout my body with hot and cold flashes, and dry scaly skin. Over my treatment and dosage, my herpes virus' became more frequent with the increase of the Topamax. Now oily sweats are now happening. I still have migraine headaches with and without movement in physical therapy and everyday life. It did curve my binge eating and depression. I have down dosed and I am coping the best I can. I have been taking 50 mg 2x a day since 11/30/18. The first week a migraine put me in the ER. I am still suffering with the usual cluster headache and not finding much relief. I am not sure if this new drug is working or if I should continue trying it. I do like the loss of appetite that comes with taking tomamax because everything else I have tried causes weight gain and I do not need that! Not sure what to do at this point. Suffer with the headaches and foggy brain or ask to try another medication and go through those side effects.... Read More Read Less

I have been on 50mg taken twice daily for a year. The medication has significantly reduced the number of migraines I get which last from 1-4 days at a time several times a month. The only major side effect I've had while taking Topamax is I am not able to drink more then a glass or 2 of alcohol. I also strongly urge against smoking marijuana while taking Topamox. I fainted and vomited in my sleep after only a few hits. I felt like I was having a panic attack while I was asleep. Any other depressant mixed with Topamax has serious side effects which could be fatal. Read More Read Less

Topamax did a great job at preventing my migraines. I was having at least 1 a week, and Topamax basically took them away completely. However, I have had to stop taking it due to it causing kidney stones. I have had 2 episodes of kidney stones while taking Topamax. The last one landed me in the ER. I thought I was dying...it was worse than giving birth to my son. It's not worth that again. I would honestly rather have migraines again, and that is saying a lot. I am now trying to find another migraine preventative. Read More Read Less

While I say Binge Eating Disorder it is actually trying to lose weight. I really want to know how long the side effects last. The foggy head. I have only been taking the 50mg at night not the suggested 2 a day till my body adjusts. Can someone answer? Thanks!

I've taken Topamax for years but recently noticed a changed. I've never had a problem with body odor, but all of a sudden this has become an issue. Mainly vaginal odor, I can stop taking my Topamax and not have a problem with odor but as soon as I start my pills again the problem starts back.

I started taking this about 2 weeks ago id say, and man its a struggle for me. They started me on the 25mg 2 times a day. Right away I started noticing a change with my concentration, and being able to pay attention, my memory and speech/language. I was very tired as well. After a week I was told to only take 1 pill at night and see if that would be better, as soon as I tried that I got a really bad migraine. So I've decided to just stick it out with the 2x a day. Although I am still having some trouble with confusion/concentration being able to pay attention and all that, its not as bad as it was but its still there. I probably eat about 1 full meal a day while taking this medicine. but overall everything is getting better. I have mild discomfort from day to day that will some times last all day and that's probably due to loss of appetite and not eating. --------til next timeRead More Read Less

Let me start by saying, this is the only medication I've taken religiously since I've filled the prescription (one 50 mg pill at bedtime). Usually I'm forgetful about taking pills daily. Anyway, I have had headaches since elementary school. Migraines here and there. Finally went to a neurologist 3 wks ago to see what was up. So we've started this 90 day regimen to see if it helps. The headaches have pretty much faded. There are days where it's like I feel one coming on but it never comes. Don't quite like that feeling, but it's better than a full on headache or migraine. My feet though, especially my heels, have this weird tingling sensation at odd times of the day, which I'm guessing is a side effect after reading other reviews. I also feel what I'm assuming is anxiety. I've never felt this way, almost all day, it's like my heart races, my breathing gets weird. I try to take deep breaths, that doesn't work. I just have to wait it out. Again, after reading other reviews, I'm assuming that these side effects are coming from the Topamax. I'm also on Depo-provera but never get like this before. Maybe it's the mixture, idk. I'm going to have to speak to the neurologist again to see if there is an alternative.Read More Read Less

I started taking this on 1/30/18 and haven't had the first headache since only some dull pain for the first couple days. I was taking 25mg twice daily, but the side effects are rough like everyone else says. I had to make myself eat or maybe remind myself to. I have a sick feeling in my stomach so much so that I thought I had the flu, but tested negative. I've felt a little discouraged (down) mentally, not depressed, but frustrated..moody even. It helped my migraines, but I'm still adjusting to the side effects. My doctor had me just take my evening pill last night so I'll be just taking one nightly to see if that helps. I wish you all the best. Read More Read Less

I have been taking this medication for over 5 years. It has worked well for my migraines. I would have migraines 3-4 times a week. Some lasting for over a week at a time. I currently take 100mg twice a day. I also take amitriptyline at night, plus I have prn meds. But for the most part. It has helped me a lot. I am pleased.

After 15 days still getting daily headaches although they may be less severe so Iâ??m hopeful. But Iâ??m a zombie on 150 mg a day so probably wonâ??t go to the max. Canâ??t think, stumble around, gums bleed, hands and lips tingle. Will do the 90 day recommended program before moving on to the next step if necessary; a nerve block according to the doc.

It is very early days for me so far as I have only been taking 25mg at night for 1 week so far. I have however already felt very dizzy with some tingling in my feet. The last few days I have not felt very hungry, but still feel very full as though I had eaten a large meal. I am hoping that my body adjusts so that I can get some relief from my DAILY CHRONIC migraine soon. I am certainly not giving up on it yet.

I was given this medication 2 weeks ago and while it has prevented headaches I have to quit taking it. I have 0 appetite. I only weighed 105 to begin with and am already down to 97lbs. I can't focus or concentrate, sweaty, chills, foggy, tingly, dizzy, anxious, huge changes in taste of food, my body is very weak. I will take a headache any day over this!

started slowly to get to 100mg 2x/day to prevent migraines that were 3-4 times a month. Found that I was losing way too much weight and couldn't eat so only took 100mg once a day at night. For over 10 years. now and now migraines 3-4 times/year. Find that if I forget to take med I do get migraine. Its a constant. No brain fuzziness at 100mg

Medicine is easy to take. It worked well at first. I started taking 50mg twice a day. Then worked up to 100mg which is what prevented my migraines the most. However, at that dose level I was in daze and my hair started thinning. So I decided to decrease lower to 75 mg BID which, being a chronic migraine suffer (14) a month I have to find something else...and still be able to work and take care of family without looking like a balding zombie. So I am just surviving thru decreasing off at moment making sure lower stress, sleep and water is good...and thinking about Botox?Read More Read Less

I am very happy with the relief of migraines from taking Topamax. When I started taking the prescription, I was extremely dizzy and felt terrible, but it wore off within 4 weeks and the migraines were gone, that was 2 years ago and still going strong. I have lost weight with the Topamax because when I am finished eating, I am finished. No other side effects are noticed.

I used Topamax/Topiramate as a mood stabilizer: Pros: - Has a calming effect that helps me go to sleep (I take it at night) - Suppresses appetite (if you need that in your life) - Non-habit forming (and very easy to titrate/get off the medication without any harmful effects) - Most importantly, it works! Cons: - Difficulty breathing when you initially take the medication (you feel like you can't take full breaths. This is a symptom of anxiety and it's 100% mental. Your body is fine and this goes away soon) - Reduced sweating/tingling sensation in your skin (the tingling sensation goes away and the sweating problem gets better, but does not go away) - Constipation - This was by far the most frustrating thing for me as it did not go away. However as soon as I upped my fiber things got better (if you need a temporary boost use milk of magnesia [aka MOM] only as it's non-habit forming) - Memory Problems (depending on the dosage) - No you suddenly don't get dementia, however you may have difficulties remembering someone's name you just met (if that's something you used to be good at). This side effect does get better and is 100% dependant on how strong of dosage you're on (when I was on 50mg or 100mg I did not experience it, but when I was on 200mg I did experience this but the pros outweighed the cons for me) Summary: Listen, here's the thing. You may have read horror stories of people who were on this medication, but you should really know the context - A) did they titrate up to the correct dose like your supposed to or just start taking the highest dose possible like some people (which can have some series consequences). B) What was their dosage? If it's 400mg a day then yeah, your probably experiencing some issues unless you have severe epilepsy (recommended max dosage for migraine users is 100mg, mood stabilizer 200mg) Anyway, good luckRead More Read Less
