I was prescribed this med to help with racing thoughts and it has worked wonders. It has controlled the thoughts and I do not drink nor crave alcohol at all. It is a miracle drug and it is a great weight management pill to boot. Two thumbs up!

After taking Topamax for the first time, it made me feel extremely strange. I got a tingly feeling in my entire head, it gave me a headache, and my whole body felt extremely fatigued. I felt more spaced out than usual, too. It was terrible so I called my doctor that day. He said "You need to try to push through the side effects, they'll subside after a few days." Well, let me tell you, they did no...

After taking this medication for some time for losing weight I notice I could not remember things. I would mean to say one word but yet said something different. Thought I would see something move but yet it didn't. Really thought something was wrong w/my head. After speaking to my doctor about this a couple of times I read up on all my medications and discovered that this particular drug could be causing the problems. I stopped taking it cold turkey. I was taking 100mg twice a day. Been a few months now and my memory is much better along w/talking. Not back the way before taking this drug but much better.Read More Read Less

I was given Topomax about 2 months ago for recurring migraines; it did not keep my migraines away, and had side effects that were far worse than migraines themselves. It started with losing my appetite; I could go over a day without eating and not notice. Quickly following loss of appetite came the nausea; even thinking about food made me vomit. After that the psychological effects started, and for me, these side effects were debilitating. I become extremely anxious, paranoid, and depressed; I had panic attacks daily, and would cry for hours every night. The anxiety and depression got worse and worse the longer I was on Topomax, I wanted to end my life just to make the side effects stop. Next came the hallucinations; I would see things moving all the time and I would hear voices multiple times a day that made it impossible for me to focus, sleep, or do anything but sit in fear. I almost admitted myself into a psych ward because I legitimately thought I was losing my mind. I’m still not back to the way I was before Topomax; I fully regret ever taking it. Read More Read Less

this medication made me have psychosis, after a day i was puking and lost ability to do normal everyday things like take cook or speak fluently. it’s been half a year since i took this medication and i’m still not over the trauma it put me through. in a week i was 83 lbs and unable to move. i would lose hair in clumps and couldn’t touch food without the thought of puking. i would wake up hoping i’d die for the first week. i started to think i was bleeding or having kidney stones but i was just losing my mind. i never experienced anger or lashing out but i would slip into episodes of uncontrollable shaking anger and even snapped on a health care worker trying to push more medication on me. i would also uncontrollably hurt myself at times because “i had to”. i felt like i was in a constant daze, always in the backseat of my own mind. loud noises would make me start crying and punching myself. i carried stuffed animals and squeeze toys around so i wouldn’t harm myself, and i reverted back into a child for the first week. i lost touch of reality. absolutely nothing improved. if you want to lose 20 pounds in a week and have a severe case of delusional thinking paired with suicidal ideation then this is perfect for you. it almost took my life and i’ve never been myself since. i’m a shell of a person i was before this medication. I am taking this to treat daily migraines. When it effects work, it becomes a problem. I am now taking 125mg a day. Twice a day now. 50mg morning. 75mg at bedtime. For me, at first because I am a cannabis user, the dizziness was heavy, so I had to ease up on the use of cannabis. The numbness was hard at first but gradually, was less and less. Now it's just a tingle. I feel a but sluggish at times but nothing a cup of coffee can't fix during the day. Sometimes I catch my self lost with my thinking, but it's not sever. Not something I'm overly concerned about, but would monitor, knowing the side effect. Read More Read Less

Itâ??s been years since I took this drug but I still think about it frequently because of how bad my reaction was to it. I was prescribed 100 mgs a day for headaches. The first day I took this drug I noticed that everything tasted like diet soda. I had this gross taste in my mouth that I couldnâ??t get rid of. The second day was complete insanity! I was so confused, scared and numb feeling. My face was tingling and I felt very weak. I couldnâ??t figure out how to use my phone to order food, and I knew I couldnâ??t drive, so I asked a friend for help. I had to call off work because I couldnâ??t formulate sentences properly. I became so distraught that I couldnâ??t do anything without crying. Literally couldnâ??t even figure out how to get a glass of water. Then I began hallucinating. I thought I was 3 different versions of myself and that the version of me that was a college student was suing the version of me that took the medication for ruining my chances at making good grades. I was scared shitless of being sued and kept apologizing to people, including my boss, for being â??badâ?. Luckily my boss was very understanding and one of my coworkers was familiar with the negative effects of topamax because it made her mom become schizophrenic! If you are taking this for the first time, make sure you have people around you who will notice changes in your mood and help you if you become completely unable to care for yourself. It took me almost a week to feel normal again and I still felt so embarrassed to go back to work because my boss knew all about how crazy I was feeling.Read More Read Less

Although it did help to reduce the # of migraines, after being on this drug for over ten years, my bones, teeth, hair and nails were awful. Early osteoporosis, teeth chipping, nails and hair brittle. Finally stopped it after realizing it was the Topamax.

My eyes swelled out of my head and i looked like syd from ice age. Its a no go for me chief.

I was on this drug for 5 years, 100mg for the first 2years and 200mg for 3years,unfortunately the side effects took over and affected my work, slowed memory, blurred vision, memory loss, anxiety, and more. Please read the side effects and ask your family to note any unusual behaviour. I am now off this drug and hoping my brain is back to normal.

I have partial seizures. It didn't help for a very long time while taking it aling with another. But eventually it started to control them. If you don't eat enough food. It is a possibility that you may become lightheaded and dizzy.

I have been having migraines and headaches every single day for the past 3 or so years(at least that is as long as I can remember having them). Previously I was taking Nortriptyline, but I ended up being allergic to it. Since I have been taking Topamax, I have been getting really dizzy, and I have been getting really bad headaches with sharp pain behind my eye. Hopefully it will start working soon because it hasnâ??t done anything beneficial yet.

This is the only medication I have taken for tremors that has somewhat helped. Nothing is completely effective. However, I also have IBS, and this medication has cause me to have diarrhea bad enough that I am considering getting off it. I also have some tingling from time to time in my toes, and since I only have one kidney, I am concerned about all the comments about kidney damage. I see my gastroenterologist tomorrow, and I will make a decision whether to discontinue this drug. I take 200 mg daily. Read More Read Less

I suffered from debilitating Cluster Headaches for almost 20 years. Finally a physician recommended I try Topamax. I take one pill at night before bedtime to help offset any tiredness. After a month, I no longer suffered from Cluster (suicide) headaches. I'm grateful.

I'm now 30 years old, but I was 12 when I was put on this medication. When I was 12, I had a mild seizure and the Neurologist put me on Topamax. I didn't have anymore seizures, but I also didn't get a single headache. I was on Topamax for about two years. I also didn't experience any side effects. I can't remember the dosage, but for the first year, I took it 3 times a day. I was eventually tapered off of it.

I still hold so much anger when I think about what this drug did to me in the span of a month. I had severe side effects, from random tingling in my hands and feet to horrible mental and cognitive function. The effects this drug had on my mental state will never outweigh any positive changes it had to my migraines. This drug made me feel like I was truly going crazy. Iâ??m very open with my loved ones about my struggles with my mental health but this drug scared me into silence. I was not warned that it could have any side effects on my mental state or cognition so I only assumed that I was starting to go insane. Inability to speak sentences, say the right words, or worst of all - trouble explaining how I was feeling. Biggest mood swings Iâ??ve ever experienced. Episodes of being incredibly manic, to then not getting out of bed for days. It all got worse each week with the dosage increases. I couldnâ??t finish the simplest of tasks and eventually had to take the semester off of school, before understanding it was the drug causing all of these issues. Thankfully a close friend suggested to look up the side effects ONLY in response to my tingly feet and hands, and thatâ??s when I read and realized this drug was causing the month of internal chaos. I have such hatred towards this drug. PLEASE be aware and prepared for the effects this drug COULD have on your mind before starting it. Read More Read Less

I was put on 50mg a day of topamax for chronic vomiting. I only took it for 3 weeks before I quit because I could not deal with the side effects. The numbness and pain in my hands and feet were unbearable. I could not even wash my own hair. The numbness in my lips and tongue. I was not sleeping more than an hour or two a night. I was unable to pronounce 3 syllable words while reading even though I knew what they were. My speech definitely slowed down. Just by stopping my speech has improved already. I could not imagine taking this drug for a longer period of time. I don’t see how this is approved by the fda with all the side effects people have. 4 days after I stopped taking it I still do not have feeling back in hands and feet and still is painful. This drug needs to be off the market! Read More Read Less
