I have been taking Marcrobid for years and I do not experience any major side effects. I may occasionally experience softer stools but that's it. Within 12 hours of taking this medication I feel 100%.

I rarely, if ever leave a review for much. But after my experience taking this antibiotic, I am going on as many sites as I can to inform others about this drug. I was prescribed 100mg of Microbid every 12 hours for 7 days for a UTI. I am not sensitive to antibiotics I have taken in the past, i.e. amoxicillin, Cipro, Z-pack. However, this antibiotic made me feel awful. I didn't see any change ...

Worst antibiotic ever given to me! Never again I took 2 doses and this medication knocked me all the way down.... headache, body aches, pain in eyes, nausea, diarrhea, fever, chills, dizziness.. Got tested for covid and it was negative. This made me feel horrible I can't wait till this is out of my system. I STOPPED THE MEDS IMMEDIATELY NEVER AGAIN!

Avoid this medication. Gave me strong flu like symptoms so bad thought it might be COVID break through. Sheer misery. Took two pills, as directed, twelve hours apart. Took a full 24 hours to recover. Intense body aches, fever, nausea. Had to take a sick day. Doc called in an old fashioned sulfa drug instead- way better. No issues.

Side effects were too terrible. First 5 days: drowsy, nausea, dry coughs. Acceptable, because comparing to the pain to pass blood urine, they were fine. Day 6: High fever, chest pain, shortness of breath. Went to hospital, chest x-ray showed haziness on the bottom of one side of my lung. Covid negative. white blood cells only slightly above the normal limit. Diagnosed with pneumonia, so they gave me antibiotics, but it didn’t work, still high fever. The doctors had no clue why it didn’t work, after a long time my body temperature was still very high. Then they just gave me Tylenol to lower my body temperature, it worked. I finally felt better after taking Tylenol not antibiotics, it’s also almost 24 hours after taking the last Macrobid, so i’m not sure the improvement was from the Tylenol or stopping Macrobid. Do not ignore dry coughs after taking this medication, it could develop serious lung problems. I only have UTI before this nightmare. young and healthy, no smoke, alcohol, or drugs. I have never got this sick before taking macrobid. Just be careful taking this medication. Read More Read Less

This medication made me feel worse. The next day my hips and legs aches so bad. It gave me a terrible headache that didn’t stop until 2 days after I stopped taking it. Will never take again.

A few hours after first does I felt confused and couldn’t see right. Took one before bed and woke up thinking I was going to die from how bad body aches I had. Felt just like having the flu. Fever chills body aches can’t move my body at all. Worst medication I’ve ever taken. Never again!

Was given the drug with a suspect of UTI which I learned I never had...9 days of pure diarrhea and eventually acid diarrhea. Had to get on probiotics to stop the effects. Soon as I stopped I went to fevers and green poop for 7 days.

The medicine itself worked as it should have. Soon as I finished it, I started itching really bad. Hives developed all over my hands, legs, arms and feet.

I was on a 3 day treatment with Macrobid. Day 1 I still felt like crap because of my UTI. Day 2 I felt like a brand new woman! I cleaned and got things taken care of. Day 2 evening I started feeling like crap. I had no appetite or urge to eat. I was also slightly short of breath, but thought I was having an asthma exacerbation and hit my rescue inhaler. I also became dizzy and weak. Day 3 was awful. I couldn't eat, was sweaty, had chills, dizzy, weak, bloating, and horrible indigestion.Today is Day 1 off the med and I am sitting in the Urgent Care office that prescribed Macrobid to me. We're not sure if it's the med, Covid, or flu. I am still dizzy, weak, have a horrible appetite, sweaty, and it didn't get rid of my UTI. I still have a slight burning when urinating. It's been a wild ride this weekend! I'll be happy for some answers, and a different antibiotic!Read More Read Less

On the 5th tablet my right hand tingled for about 30 seconds, on the 6th tablet it went numb. It is still not okay. I stopped taking it. This called peripheral neuropathy and can be permanent. I found a small US study which showed 1 out 7 people experienced peripheral neuropathy. I never have side effects from any drug. I was reading your reviews for effectiveness when I saw the side effects and started watching for them. Thanks for posting!!!!

I took this medicine for 7 days. At about the 5th day, I started having chills and body aches. I ended up going back to the convenient care place that prescribed this medicine. I had a fever of 102.6. Tested for Covid and flu. All negative. Also had blood work. We concluded that it was a reaction to this drug. Felt better next day. Will not take this again

I just finished 5 days on Macrobid for a UTI. Each day I became more and more uncomfortable. Headache, some nausea, very bad body aches and zapped of any energy. I would not chose to use this medication again.

I was prescribed macrobid in Dec of 2019. I ended up with a severe allergic reaction causing an episode of pneumonia for which I was hospitalized for 7 days.

First off, I'm a super panicky person about taking meds. I hate them as I get the weird, rare side effects. But a UTI is nothing to mess around with unless you want it to move to your kidneys. I'm very prone to UTIs but have always taken Cipro (much harsher than Macrobid) or Bactrim (easy peasy). First time on Macrobid and I was super anxious. But I took them with food like you're supposed to. Completely fine. Only side effect was highlighter color pee. If people are getting fevers, more than likely your UTI progressed or maybe you're allergic to it. Seriously, just EAT with it and drink WATER not soda. And don't wait seeing a doctor. After the first dose I developed a bad headache, I had to take a pain med to sleep. I also had body aches, low grade fever, nausea and a generalized flu- like syndrome. Thank goodness today is my last dose, I’ll never take it again.

Side effects: Chills, fever, pain in hands like a bladder infection, fever. Thought at first it was a breakthrough Covid from vaccine. Neg covid test. Didn't think about side effects from this horrible prescription until took last pill on day 7. Will NEVER take this again. My side effects have put me on the couch for 3 days straight starting day 5 on Fri. Likely to miss work tomorrow.

I had 2 uti’s in 6 weeks. First time I took it I developed a fever and cough the last day of treatment. I didn’t think it was related. I got tested for Covid which was negative. I took it again for my second uti, had a fever of 102, terrible cough, shortness of breath and vomiting, my antibiotic was switched and again was Covid negative. I have had a cough for 5 days and am worried it may be something that I will have to deal with for a while. This is terrible to take a drug that has pulmonary side effects. It isn’t safe.Read More Read Less

I took this for treatment of a suspected UTI after bladder pain and urgency continued after first treatment with a different medicine. I was given a prescription for 7 days at 2 times a day. I took my first one that evening of being prescribed it. The next morning I was unusually cold but didn't think much of it. I took my morning dose and the cold turned into shaking chills, like one would get with a bad fever but without the fever, just bone-rattling, freezing chills. I thought about it and decided that since this was the only thing different that I did, that I would discontinue it and call my doctor the next day. I spent that initial day in bed and half of the next day, at which point my symptoms (shaking chills) subsided and I felt well enough to do other things. I can only think it was this that caused such a sudden onset of such vigorous freezing chills and lethargy. I took a total of 2 doses only, and had such a strange reaction. I'd recommend anyone prescribed this to seriously look at the potential side effects from multiple sources, as having such bad chills and lethargy were pretty mild compared to what it could have been. I'm thankful I didn't continue the full course of this stuff. Read More Read Less

DO NOT TAKE THIS! After my second pill, I had severe stomach cramps, fever and nausea. The worst was the watery diarrhea that would not stop even after I quit taking the med. I could not eat or drink anything without going to the toilet. I fainted while trying to get back to my bed - I was so dehydrated and out of it. I went to the ER and Dr gave me Zofran to stop the diarrhea. DO NOT TAKE MACROBID!!!

Short story: I took the medication all 7 days, twice daily and it eliminated the UTI. Long story: I went to the doctor because the UTI was progressing where I felt awful all over. I began the Macrobid and began to feel even worse. My side effects were weakness, fatigue, headache, nausea, diarrhea, overall body pain like the flu. Misery. Not sure if the benefits outweigh the side effects. Will Pursue home remedy next time.
