I have been taking Marcrobid for years and I do not experience any major side effects. I may occasionally experience softer stools but that's it. Within 12 hours of taking this medication I feel 100%.

I rarely, if ever leave a review for much. But after my experience taking this antibiotic, I am going on as many sites as I can to inform others about this drug. I was prescribed 100mg of Microbid every 12 hours for 7 days for a UTI. I am not sensitive to antibiotics I have taken in the past, i.e. amoxicillin, Cipro, Z-pack. However, this antibiotic made me feel awful. I didn't see any change ...

I was prescribed Macrobid for a bladder infection. I haven't had any major problems with any other antibiotics, but I became allergic to Macrobid. I ended up in the emergency room to combat my sudden allergy.

Word to the wise: If you go to the doctor for a UTI and he/she prescribes you Macrobid without doing a urine culture first do not take it. I was prescribed this medicine for a UTI and I did not have a culture sent to the lab, my symptoms went away for 2 days and then came back twice as hard and I had severe kidney pain. This medicine made me nauseated as well and I have started a new anti-biotic without any hope of relief yet.

I never have a good reaction to antibiotics. I took Macrobid twice a day for 7 days. During that time I had headaches, gastrointestinal distress and generally felt awful. Worst of all, it didn't have any effect whatsoever on my UTI. More expense and an additional week of distress for another prescription!

I was just told yesterday that I had a Bladder infection and was given Macrobid. The prescription states that I take it 2 times a day with a meal. After my first dose...I got very sleepy!!! I couldn't keep my eyes opened. I thought I was going to fall asleep at work. When I took my second pill that evening...I was totally drained and had a horrific headache. I went to bed. I felt like I had been unconscious & was knocked out!!! I woke up feeling like I had a horrible hangover!!! I’m debating if I should take it my second dose today!!!Read More Read Less

I was given this for two days/twice daily after a procedure at my OB/GYN to prevent a bacterial infection. I took the first pill and was okay. After the second pill I was convinced I had the flu or they had accidentally prescribe a sulfa product which I am allergic to. I had to leave my daughter's softball game. I came home nauseated, with a migraine-like headache, and my hips and knees ached. My legs were weak and I was cramping in my calves. I am glad I was able to read these posts after my husband suggested I might be allergic to this product, so I could stop the product and let my doctor know my symptoms. It sounds like the people who took it longer had some pretty severe side-effects and reactions. Read More Read Less

The side effects listed include headache. Yeah, I got one. Every day I took this. I rarely take any sort of medication. Now I remember why.

I am not allergic to anything to my knowledge. I am now convinced I am allergic to this drug. I took it for the first time one year ago and broke out in rash a week later. Rash lasted a few days and then went away. Questioned the drug at the time but never made the connection. Thought I would have seen effects quicker than a week after if it was truly the drug. I just took the drug again two weeks ago while at the same time being 35 weeks pregnant. Sure enough a week later I broke out in a rash again but worse. I have now had the rash all over my body for a week and am now 37 weeks pregnant and its all just too much! Hopefully it goes away soon. I WILL NEVER TAKE THIS DRUG AGAIN! Its not worth the pain and agony.Read More Read Less

I began getting UITs as a young woman, and have had so many since then, that the scar tissue in my bladder makes me very prone to them. After finally being referred to a urologist, I am now on prophylactic(preventative) Macrobid. I take one each time immediately after intercourse; and as long as I remember to do that, I am UTI-free...what a relief! It is very important to take Macrobid with food, and drink plenty of water. Many of the side effects I have read about could be due to the actual infection, as a UTI can move quickly, and it does take time for medication to even begin to kick in!Read More Read Less

After taking this for 4 days, it immediately raised my liver enzymes. After stopping it, they returned to normal.

Had none of the side effects listed in the other comments. But after reading all of them was a little frightened. So far so good. Did feel somewhat tired.

Thought I had the flu and was dying. Very sick. Fever, chills, bone and muscle ache. This after only 1 pill. Tried one more just to be sure it was the medicine. IT WAS! I won't use this one again.

Will NEVER try this medication again. Returned to doctor 5th day of treatment as I thought I was going to die. On evening of 4th day of treatment I started with breathing problems, nausea, stomach pain, acid reflux, tingling/numbness of hands & feet, fever, chills, all over aches (flu like symptoms), nausea, and severe abdominal pain. Doc felt is was not the medication but instead a virus and asked that I continue the final three doses. MY MISTAKE. Took final dose last night and now have itchy rash head to toe! On doing research on the drug this morning, it is clear to me that I am having a severe allergic reaction to this medication. Guess I'm going today for medical evaluation. Would never recommend use of the drug to anyone. Read More Read Less

I had severe bladder prolapse, and was prescribed macrobid for a bladder infection. 2tabs/day. I was to have surgery in a few weeks. 1 tab each morning and 1 at night. after the first dose I began to feel a little tired, but after the second dose I became very ill. weakness of my leg muscle, severe shortness of breath, inability to walk 5ft to my bathroom without a walker, I was transported to my local hospital on oxygen and was hospitalized for four days. my lungs filled with fluid and I was dianosed with pneumonia and sent home. After a few weeks I still needed treatment for the infection before surgery and was told to continue with the remainder of the medicine and the same thing happened, only not as severe as before and we found out it was an allergic reaction to the macrobid. I was treated and released the same day. with my chart being tagged severe allergy to macrobid. and all ingredients. it was discovered I had a possible allergy to sulfurRead More Read Less

i was diagnosed with a UTI and the er prescribed me marcobid along with tylenol codine 3 and my symptoms for UTI went away but i went to follow up with my doctor and she said that i still had the UTI. When i went to the er they were supposed to do a bactrial culture of my urine and never did. so as a result when i followed up with my doctor everything looked normal and they did a bacterial culture and found that the UTI was still there. They have put me on bactrim ds to treat the UTI.
