I am on a low dosage and did not have any symptoms from hypothyroidism, but I haven't had any problems with the medication. According to my labs it's been effective at bringing my levels back to where they should be and keeping them there.

Used since 1983 in various doses from 20 to 1- currently. Great for weight control and energy. Hair is better and attitute is positive. My current doctor is a bit conservative; but, I am now 71 years of age. Still skiing and have a desire to work usually. I am not overweight although my apetite has gone down since the new doctor lowered the dosage.

Having had very serious side effects of an underactive thyroid; I noticed the positive effects right away. I wasn't sweating as much, I seemed to be sleeping better, and I didn't seem to be as irritable. I also started Paxil shortly after I began the Levothyroxine .050 mcg, who's to say at this point just how much this is helping. I have a lot of other contributing factors for the sweats, nasea, shakes, etc, but as for the weigt gain when my eating habits haven't changed in two weeks time, and that I don't gain weigt like this. The only logical explanation would be to increase the Levothyroxine to .075 mcg. Apparently, the dosage was supposed to be raised to .075 in June of 2007, no doctor had ordered it, even though they knew it to be a problem.Read More Read Less

For example, taking the medicine usually takes care of the symptoms, but over time, it can cause one's thyroid to almost stop work completely (due to the drug doing all the work for it). Also, the listed side effects on the bottle include osteoporosis among MANY others. Hello?! So one takes care of one's throid but gives oneself osteoporosis eventually? I want to look into these things for myself and perhaps find an alternate solution. There has to be something better. Why futher disable one's thyroid? Shouldn't we be trying to strengthen it and get it back to normal- not just "make do" and cause other problems later on? This reasoning makes sense to me. I have just recently decided to look for something better and will keep searching until I find it....Read More Read Less

I have been on this drug off and on for over a year mostly in small doses because everytime I take a higher dosage the side effects really bother me. Nervousness, trembling, nausea, extreme tiredness, fatigue, memory loss,I can't concentrate,I can't function, hot flashes with sweating,I feel like I'm going crazy, I literally feel like it's messing with my head.

I have soreness in upper and lower legs. Not aching, but just very sore. Sometimes especially at nite it is worse. Could this be a side effect of this drug? Only been on it for a couple of weeks.

This the first month taking Levothyroxine. As I get older my thryoid slows down. I have a few less severe symptoms. Hopefully by next month I can give this medicine a better rating.
