While this drug has eleviated my symptoms very effectively for over 5 years, I believe, I am very concerned with the things that my friends and collegues (many in the medical & health fields) have been saying. For example, taking the medicine usually takes care of the symptoms, but over time, it can cause one's thyroid to almost stop work completely (due to the drug doing all the work for it). Als...

I put off taking these meds for 3 years. When I was hurting from head to toe I decided to take 25mcg. Within 2 days all the pain went away, no more dizziness, no more heart palpitations. I still get blurred vision sometimes. I have been on it for 8 months now.

I am taking levothyroxine since January 2017 after I have radioactive iodine done on November of 2016, I started with low dose and now I am on150 mg, which I am having a hard time because I am having trouble sleeping, heart palpitations and pain under my rib cage, headache on my left side of my head, dizziness, tiredness, in other words I am not myself specially since I am very athletic, I run 7 miles and eat very healthy but I am gained weight and yes, it looks like I am not the only one having an issue. The doctors just keep on getting you different meds, like now I am also on metoprolol 25 moto help with heart because she said I could have a heart attack. But I am not getting better I feel like tremors and I don like it. I will stop taking my levothyroxine and see how I feel later.Read More Read Less

I was on this medication for 3 years. After 6 months it stopped working. Still gained weight, hair loss, swelling in feet and hands. I am an active person that walks 6 miles a day. No matter if I ate right, worked out never saw any difference in weight or side effects from having hypothyroidism.

I am taking Levothyroxine since October 2016. it has help me but no enough to feel like my old self. so I took it upon myself to add multi vitamins and minerals and it made a big difference to how I feel. Yes I do know that those doctors treating us for thyroid problems don't care if we get better or not. shame on them ! going to stop seen mine and try another one. he only test for TSH and free T4 no T3 or other test , he doesn't comment on anything ,doesn't give me any advice, another words he is useless to me. our only conversation is : increase or decrease the med. Well I see from other post that we are going though the same thing. take your pill and wait . well I am tired of waiting . I am 73 and I don't have time to wait and see. I these Drs. don't know how to treat our problems beyond taking pills then they should seek another field. sorry to rant but I am disgusted. feel so bad for so many of you who have had to put up with this for so many years. Bless you all.Read More Read Less

I've had hypo for 40 years and was on synthroid mostly until the docs said levo was cheaper and synth wasn't covered under my current insurance and I've been getting worse for years w/the exceptions of losing weight only during the times I couldn't eat due to stress, working strenuously. The doc doesn't take me seriously and never suggests anything besides me being o a diet and I hardly eat as it is which feeds off my muscle and not the fat. Extremely depressed, dry skin, sweating profusely etc. I've had it w/these doctors who don't live in my body but refuse to do their job.Read More Read Less

I still have an enlarged thyroid and have to take Prednisone about every 2-3 months for 5 days so I don't feel like someone is choking me, also I usually am very tired to the point I can't get out of bed for work. I seem to have flares about every 2-3 months,.

I tried Levothyroxine 25 mcg, but had bad side effects, so my doctor prescribed Synthroid 25 mcg to see if I would do better. I was on it for two months and felt okay, but then the exact same symptoms that I felt on Levothyroxine showed up. It was a very bad headache on my left side of the head, usually behind the eye, and also a pain in my left side under the breast, and heart palpitations, fluttering, and beating really hard at times too. I had an x ray when on Levothyroxine for that pain in my side, but nothing showed in the x-ray. I had no idea it was because of the drug. I only connected the dots when I had the exact same pain when on Synthroid. Besides those symptoms, I felt really ill, like my whole body was shutting down, sensitivity to sound and light, couldn't handle any stimulation or stress. I felt like I was shaking or having tremors on the inside like I was standing on one foot all day, like the exertion of standing on one foot, I felt like I was doing that all day. That feeling was the worst of all the symptoms. The day I stopped taking Synthroid, the tremor, and shaking feeling on the inside, and pain on left side under the rib cage went right away. and I my headache and heart palpitations subsided greatly the day I stopped taking it, but took two weeks to completely go away, but it faded a lot each day. I took Synthroid for a week after feeling the headache and heart issues, but it wasn't getting any better, it was getting worse by the day to be next to intolerable. I saw a clear improvement each day since I have stopped taking it. Each day better than the next. While on Levothyroxine, I suffered for much longer because I didn't realize I was so sick because of the drug. I went to get x rays, got blood work done, etc. The symptoms on Levo crept up on me more slowly than while on Synthroid so it took me more by surprise.Read More Read Less

I have been on this drug for 7 years and despite telling my GP for all that time that it has no effect they refuse to listen and say it is the only drug you can get in Scotland. prof Stott Glasgow University has trialled this drug and said it was useless for a lot of patients. Showed my GP this published article. My GP is still not convinced. I have to carry on taking it but i do not see the purpose of it when it doesn't help. Something more effective has to be prescribed for people.

I was gaining weight everyday. No mater what I did and just didn't feel myself. After lab test, they showed I had hypothyroidism and Hoshimotos. Was put on 25mcg and didn't see any change so went up to 50mcg. I feel great. Losing weight now, with help of the nutritionist in my doctors office. I have some small dizziness, sometimes, but doable. I keep my medicine by my bed with water. I wake up at like 4-5am and take my meds and go back to sleep That way when I get up at 7-8 I can have my coffee and calcium and vit d supplements. Read More Read Less
