While this drug has eleviated my symptoms very effectively for over 5 years, I believe, I am very concerned with the things that my friends and collegues (many in the medical & health fields) have been saying. For example, taking the medicine usually takes care of the symptoms, but over time, it can cause one's thyroid to almost stop work completely (due to the drug doing all the work for it). Als...

I have been diagnosed with an underactive thyroid which I had suspected for over 5-6 years but was told no. I had always been a size 8-10 even after 5 children in my 30s. Iâ??m now 44 I have been using this medicine for 3 months and I feel like I have put on weight even more. I am not sleeping properly no energy and have aches top of legs. I am short of breath and irritable anxious and depressed. Looking for an alternative to medication. I have read it is bad to just stop it though I am currently on 75mg but I have heard it takes up to a year to get the dosage right. Read More Read Less

My TSH went down to 0.3 after one month and caused raging anxiety. Decreased to 12.5mcg daily and am still having horrible anxiety and increased heart rate. I know it works, as it lowered my TSH and increased my T3 and T3, but I can't handle the side effects. The anxiety interrupts my sleep and makes me irritable.

I have been taking this ever since levoxyl was taken off the market and my thioryd function has not improved. I was taking 325mcg a day which meant the highest mcg and another one while on levoxyl and my levels were within normal limits, not the same with this one. I am currently looking into a natural treatment.F/43 hypo since 2001.

I was on this medication for almost 4 years. When I first started taking it, I noticed that I would get the runs frequently. Then it happened with everything I ate. Finally the last straw was having the runs every 5 minutes, so I quit taking it. I also had the same symptoms, tired, hair loss, dry skin, brittle nails, etc. When will the drug manufacturers quit making medications that do more harm than good.

I started with 30 mcg as prescribed by my primary care doctor in mid-2017. He recently upped the amount to 100 mcg 6 days per week because my blood test still revealed low thyroid. I was not tired before or after taking this medication, but I was worried about hair loss. I have occasional constipation, and in Colorado, everyone has dry skin. Since going on this medication, I sweat more, am more impatient, anxious and irritable, my hair is thinning even more (that is not acceptable). Beside levothyroxine, I take lowest dose Estradiol, a multi- vitamin, biotin and a joint med. Read More Read Less

Seems to work well, with yearly TSH and T4 checks to adjust dosage. Annoying that I have to take it awhile before eating.

First, this drug is a hormone. I strongly suggest you see an Endocrinologist for treatment. Hormones are tricky, and PCPs are not as qualified to treat thyroid problems. It can take a year or more to determine the ideal dose for a patient. The drug itself is great. I have no problem at all with it. In my experience, do not take a drug with T3 and T4. This drug is T4 only.

I had been on Levothyroxine for several years and was doing OK except for some jiont and muscle pains. 3 years ago my doctor left town and I had to go to another doctor (Nurse practitioner). Everything was fine until she started checking my TSH. I was taking 112 dosage and she said I needed more so she increased it to 125. Three months later she increased it to 137. I started having dizzy spells and almost passing out. I talked to the doctor (NP) but she said my TSH was too high and I needed that dosage. So I took it. 3 months later she up the dosage to 150. I started having heart palpitations. I went and talked to her again and she said I needed the increase. So I took it. 3 months later she up the dosage to 175. One week after that I started taking the 175 I ended up in the ER. My heart rate went to 179 BPM and wouldn't come down. After 6 hours in the ER they got my heart back in rhythm and sent me home, saying follow up with my doctor. In the next few days while I was waiting to see the doctor my blood pressure went crazy. 214/110 I called the doctor (NP) and they finally got me in. She said I did not have an overdose of the Levothyroxine and it had nothing to do with my blood pressure rise. She gave me another blood pressure pill and a water pill. And I was already dehydrated. Needless to say I have changed doctors back to 125 dosage.Read More Read Less

I felt much better within a month but I seem to have 2 side effect my face I've been breaking out and gained a couple of lbs if the weight gain continues I will tell them to change my medication. Also a couple of days ago my dosage was upped from 75 to 88.. I shall see what happens.. BUT from what I've been reading is that most of you are seeing your PCP, my PCP referred me to a specialist as soon as she saw the results of blood work. Why are you guys seeing your PCP to treat your condition..

My TSH was 5.2 so my PC put me on this drug about 3 years ago. I am no longer cold and not quite as tired but I have lost 90% of my hair and will soon have none left. I had NO hair loss before starting this drug--extremely thick, shiny, dark hair, even during the years that I was supposedly hypo with this TSH reading. The hair loss started within a few months of this drug. When I started this drug hair loss was not a side effect and the doctors laughed when I told them and said it was maybe menopause which I went through in my 40s. Now hair loss is listed as a major side effect. Some have suggested it is the filler in the different versions, especially the purple 75s. Why doesn't the FDA check into this drug before it becomes the next lay suit ad on TV? Has anyone had hair growth on this pill?Read More Read Less

I was prescribed this medication when my I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism. It did nothing for me and seriously messed with my menstrual cycle, my mood and just about everything else. I demanded that my pcp switch me to something else. I have since been on armour thyroid. My symptoms immediately improved. I have even since become pregnant. I would like to know why Drs keep trying to push this crap drug that is obviously doing way more harm than good and telling people that the natural medication is no good. I know they get a cut from the drug companies but damn don't get rich at the expense of my damn health. They know it isn't effective it causes more problems weight gain, anxiety, fatigue etc. Then turn around and give you more medication to treat the symptoms that this medication causes. My pop tried to get me on a damn weight loss program instead of switching this crap. I said no switch it or else. After about a month of being off it I lost 15 lbs and continued to lose. Do not let them fool you this is a crap medication in my opinion and it sounds from the review that it's not doing y'all too much good either. They can say what they want natural is the way to go. The proof is in the pudding. Read More Read Less

This medication caused me to have severe weight gain. from 135 lbs to 270 lbs. It made me highly irritable and easily agitated. It did make me have more energy and I didn't wake up tired anymore. Unfortunately when the doctors tested my thyroid again they found it was still getting worse with this medication. I am taking 100 mcg daily. My PCP refuses to change me to any other medication for this.

Five years of treatment with this med in gradually increased doses. Still have some symtoms of insomnia, hair loss, weight gain, vision decreased. Not very confident of lab testing results leading to increased doses.

I have been taking Nutrathoid since Jan 17, but this new doctor suggested that porcine is not consistent, but synthetics are. I've only been using Levothroxine two days, but my hot flashes have decreased! That sold me. I do want to point out that most Indians do not eat meat, and therefore, won't recommend the Naturthroid. As long as I don't go back to needing a nap at lunch everyday, I'll be happy.
