After reading all the reviews I was scared to take this. So, I made sure to drink a full glass of water before I took it and right before bed. I took it with lunch and with dinner, in the middle of the meal. I never experienced any symptoms and took two a day for one week.

DO NOT take this if you are allergic to sulfa drugs. I only took for two days and I had a severe allergic reaction to this medicine. My eyes started turning black/purple....looked like I had not slept in weeks. Chills so bad my teeth chattered and my entire body was shaking. Excruciating body aches all over my body, as if my muscles were being ripped out of my body and I started having a horrible...

This medication is the spawn of Satan himself! If I had only read the comments of those before me. Those comments would've saved me from the most severe reaction to any medication I've ever had. A routine UTI that turned into 2 additional doctor's office visits so far. Day 1, I took my first pill late in the evening. I noticed I had chills that night & woke with a dull headache. Day 2, fever had begun, felt like all my energy had been zapped from me. Nausea had begun and no appetite. I also felt like I was in a fog. Day 3 same symptoms as day 2 but worse. Fever reached 101.5 and had sweat pouring from me. I finally stopped taking the medication and have still being climbing my way back to my normal feeling self. I also noticed my breathing was different and it hurt to breathe slightly. I also developed a nagging persistent cough. Rash started after I stopped taking the meds. I believe they are responsible for my white blood cells increasing and hope to know for sure in a couple days. My warning to you is to please read through the experiences others have had. I wish I had read them...it would've changed my mind! Side note it does appear to have cured the UTI but at what expense. Read More Read Less

My mom became very ill after taking this medication. She is on her 11th day of being sick from this medication. Fever of 102-103 for 5 days, then a low grade fever for 5 days, severe night sweats, her liver enzymes became elevated to the point they thought she had hepatitis, jaundice, very tired and cannot move around for more than 5 minutes without being exhausted. She has missed 7 days of work and never misses, not even for a sinus infection.

Taken with food, nausea, dizziness after first dose. Lived on crackers, and ginger snaps trying to keep the nausea at bay. After 3 days, called physician for medication change as taking this medication was so miserable. This is the first time that I have taken this antibiotic as well as the first time I have needed to request an antibiotic change.

I've taken Nitrofurantoin Mono 100 mg capsules, twice per day for three days, for painful urination. So far, I still am experiencing burning during urination. I've taken the medication as directed: with food, drink plenty of water, take at the same time every day. In addition to not getting relief from my symptom of burning during urination, I am feeling achy in my joints as if my arthritis is flaring. I also am super tired: I have absolutely NO ENERGY. Feel like someone beat me with a stick. Not sure this medication is worth it, but will continue to take for the prescribed seven days.Read More Read Less

I was prescribed this antibiotic after having been prescribed trimeth sulfa DS (Batrim) because the bactrim was giving me a persistent headache and so far I have to say that the nitrofiratoin is way easier for me to take and I don't believe I've experienced any side effects. UTI seems to be going away, no more pain yay! Barely on day 2 so I have 5 more days to go.

I have a bladder infection associated with a kidney stone (in my kidney) that will soon be removed. I went to the ER with horrible UTI pain. They have me this medication to take for 7 days 1 capsule 2x daily With food. First dose was in the ER with a shot. With 4 days my symptoms subsided. They gave medicine for any possible nausea. I have had no side effects. Sorry for others which had.

I felt nauseous and dizzy after taking the first pill. It makes me feel very tired as well. I've taken for 4 days and have decided to stop. It definitely works to clear up the UTI, as I don't have burning anymore but the side effects are horrible.

I'm not even sure exactly what type of UTI I have, but at the ER they told me I had a UTI (no symptoms). I went in after all night vomiting and diarrhea/dehydration and after tests was told about the UTI. I'm taking an anti-nausea med and this. I figured the continued nausea I've been having is related to my original problem, but decided to look online first before heading back to ER. Low and behold, I'm not alone. I'm having trouble eating much of anything due to the nausea, headaches and fatigue so I'm likely not eating enough to suppress the side effect of nausea. Luckily, tomorrow I have an appointment with my regular doctor and will ask her for a new antibiotic. This has gone on long enough.Read More Read Less

Wish I had read the reviews of this before I took it. Started on a Thursday evening - that night, awakened with chills, fever and shaking. Same thing next night. Tingling in my hands and feet. Stopped after three doses. Will not use again

My daughter who is 42 was on this drug for 5 days and got so sick. She went to doctors after 3 days, she said she had the flu. Sent her home with tamafllu. Got so sick that night 104 fever, rash, chills, sweets, body aches, shortness of breath. I had to take to the ER. Was in the hospital for 3 days. It effected her lungs. She could have died. They did a flu test and she did not have the flu. She will be out of work for at least a month. She has to let her lungs heal. Hopefully there is no long term damage. Please think twice about taking this drug. Use something else. Read More Read Less

I phoned shropdoc the Sunday morning an advised me to stop taking them an g back to my gp the Monday or Tuesday. This antibiotic should not be giving out and side affects need to be reviewed. I was prescribed a small dose daily of this medication years ago for prevention of frequent UTI's. I had no problems and was so relieved to never had another UTI since. But recently a pulmonologist took me off saying it could make my COPD worse. So far, in less than a month I've had 2 UTI's. Okay now since using Bactrim, but looking forward to my GP putting me back on something. UTI's are so painful.
