After reading all the reviews I was scared to take this. So, I made sure to drink a full glass of water before I took it and right before bed. I took it with lunch and with dinner, in the middle of the meal. I never experienced any symptoms and took two a day for one week.

DO NOT take this if you are allergic to sulfa drugs. I only took for two days and I had a severe allergic reaction to this medicine. My eyes started turning black/purple....looked like I had not slept in weeks. Chills so bad my teeth chattered and my entire body was shaking. Excruciating body aches all over my body, as if my muscles were being ripped out of my body and I started having a horrible...

I put down somewhat satisfied & somewhat effective in that I now read, on line, do not take with magnesium. I do take magnesium at night so now I don't know how effective the med is.

One of the common side effects is dizziness and feeling drowsy. Not sure why, but I got this to the extreme. Had to stop after 6 tablets, so UTI symptoms returned within a couple of days (new meds going ok). 3 days completely bedridden with extreme vertigo, nausea, nystagmus. Definitely brought on by the MacroBID as there was an increase in dizziness and drowsiness a few hours after each dose. Wish Iâ??d stopped one dose sooner when I could still stand up!! The 6th tablet was the killer one. Will be on vertigo meds and balance rehab for a good while. Anyone with a history of vertigo (Iâ??ve previously had viral labyrinthitis twice) do ask questions and be careful in case it makes you more sensitive! Iâ??ve reported it via yellow card system and there are many others. Good luck!Read More Read Less

These online reviews were so scary to me, so I'm back to review with my experience and maybe it'll help someone else not be so anxious. I can tell you that letting bacteria run rampant in your body is probably much more dangerous than taking this med. I had a little stomach upset the first day but started feeling better after 2 doses. Im finished with it now and so thankful for this medicine. I'm feeling 100% better!

I’ve been taking this for about 3.5 days, and it has made me feel like I am dying. Since the first day, I’ve had difficulty breathing/shortness of breath, chest pain, and rapid heartbeat. It took me a few days to realize it was possibly this medication, and reading other reviews confirmed it for me. I asked my doctor of possible side affects before she prescribed it, and she said there should be none! Be careful! It seems to have cleared the UTI, but I will not be taking it again!

Very picky about what goes in my body since being floxed with a Levaquin and steroid IV cocktail. I made sure the NP didn't prescribe me any fluoroquinolones. Not sure what I'll expect from this prescription other than to do its job and rid me of a UTI but for the people leaving a bad review on this drug, be thankful you weren't prescribed Cipro and if you were, you may want to start doing your homework on the negative, side effects, and being floxed from just 1 Cipro pill. Knowledge is power!

People clearly react to drugs differently and these reviews are pathetic. I've been on these tablets multiple occasions and have had little to no side effects. DON'T PANIC FROM THE REVIEWS!!! Everyone is different.

These are the worst antibiotics I have ever taken I'm on my second day and I have been so very nauseous and face food but force to take tablet, chills, fever, stomach issues, so very tired and malaise. I thought it was me until I read these reviews.

This was the first time I have taken this medication, I've been having UTI's for 3 months now. I was hoping it would be the one to work! I was too sick to notice if it helped or not! If I'd stand up my usual way,I'd get real dizzy, I can handle that, but then I started having heart problems like feeling it was making my heart race, then I'd get shortness of breath. I hooked myself to pulse ox, finger one, it read HR 130s and 85% oxygenation. I've been off of this pill only one day since I've been having this, I still get shortness of breath not even going fast, I hope I recover soon, it's making my Fibromyalgia worse! Thanks for letting me vent! Hope everyone who's had reaction to this med,has been well again!Read More Read Less

Took one dose and awoke at 2 AM with my insides burning up! I will not be taking any more but will call Dr in the morning for a change of meds...I have previously had UTI's but believe I was on a different medication. I would not recommend this to anyone.

I refuse to take these awful antibiotics ever again. I thought medication was supposed to make you feel better, not treat the symptoms (which they haven't even fully done) while making you feel so unwell in lots of other ways. I have been treated for occasional UTIs for over 20 years and have never had a reaction to any of the other antibiotics used to treat me, just Nitrofurantaine. I haven't felt the need to review any other medications but felt compelled to review this one as I want to warn others to take a 3 day course at your peril. Hats off to anyone who manages to attend their work having taken these awful capsules. Prepare to take to your bed and be unwell for 3-4 days with severe stomach pains, gas, headaches, nausea, fatigue and heart palpitations, oh and some muscle aches and chills too in case you don't feel bad enough. Never again!Read More Read Less

100mg twice a day, this medicine made me feel extremely nauseous 1-2h after intake. It also completely screwed over my exam prep as it gave me huge (cluster?) headaches. Please be aware of this antibiotic because it will significantly affect the quality of your life and studies.

This medication is the worst medication I have ever taken. I have never written a review or taken notice of reviews before however this has shocked me so much that I want to warn others! I have never been given this med before and I did find it odd I was not prescribed the usual 7 day course of antibiotic I would usually have. It was twice a day for 3 days at 100mg. I took this after my dinner yesterday as instructed and the problems begun a couple of hours after. I was hot, dizzy, slurring my words and continued then to vomit throughout the night. The stomach cramps were so bad I consider taking myself to ARead More Read Less

I was prescribed a 7 day course of the slow release capsules for a mild suspected UTI. The medication seemed to clear up the UTI after 2-3 days and having completed the course 3 weeks ago I have had no relapse. I experienced none of the side effects others have had, eg, headaches, sickness etc but what I did find was that I had increasing trips to the loo from about day 3 and discomfort which was only relieved on urination. Whilst this was similar to the UTI symptoms I felt it was caused by irritation from the medication. This was proved the case as the discomfort quickly diminished and disappeared once I finished the course. I do have some skin sensitivities and need to use unperfumed products in that area so this probably will not affect most people but is something to be aware of.Read More Read Less

My husband was prescribed this medication for an UTI. He suffered from terrible acid reflux, nausea, wretching and belching. He couldn't keep anything in his stomach. The doctor insisted he stay on the meds and he got weaker and weaker. Even after we stopped the meds his condition continued to decline. He became so dehydrated that we had to take him to the ER for iv fluids and potsssium supplements. I wouldn't recommend nitrofurantoin to anyone.

Easy to take 3 pills a day but 2 days in I was nauseous, pale, my blood pressure dropped, and at the end of my work day I fainted while walking from the front door to the bus stop. This is dangerous stuff. I stopped taking it immediately. The following 5 weeks I had excessive thirst and zero tolerance for alcohol - I got drunk off one glass of wine at dinner. Never ever again would I take this.

I found some of the negative reviews a bit scary, but i must be honest bar a slight headache little tummy trouble nothing horrendous i was okay, cured my infection,i suggest eat a good breakfast, half way through it take your antibiotic and finish the rest of your breakfast, then at night time do the same with your evening meal and in between drink water, and i still had my cups of tea, glad i took the Nitrofurantoin.
