After reading all the reviews I was scared to take this. So, I made sure to drink a full glass of water before I took it and right before bed. I took it with lunch and with dinner, in the middle of the meal. I never experienced any symptoms and took two a day for one week.

DO NOT take this if you are allergic to sulfa drugs. I only took for two days and I had a severe allergic reaction to this medicine. My eyes started turning black/purple....looked like I had not slept in weeks. Chills so bad my teeth chattered and my entire body was shaking. Excruciating body aches all over my body, as if my muscles were being ripped out of my body and I started having a horrible...

Had somewhat asymptomatic UTI--no pain, but frequent urination and blood in urine. Took second pill today, late in the afternoon with a light meal. This evening I still feel fine and relieved that the bleeding has stopped. The instructions provided to me were to take the capsule once a day (no particular time was specified) with food or milk. I am making sure to stay hydrated as well.

I am pregnant and formed a horrible Urinary Tract Infection. The pain became almost unbearable. I couldn't really do anything but lay around. I took this medication for about 3 days. The pain is completely gone and I no longer have any burning when I use the restroom. The only side effect that I had was that it turned my pee into a dark yellow almost orange color. I used this medication as recommended; With water and food and every 12 hours. It worked great! I will continue to take the rest of the medication until I am done with the dosage the doctor gave me. My mother nearly died yesterday from taking this stupid drug. she had an allergic reaction which saw her go into anafalactic (sp) shock. Living out of town took the ambulance over a half hour to reach her and she was already feeling like she was going to die. Doctors just released her saying she was a very lucky lady to have survived...She will be on natural remedies from now on!!!!!!!

I can't rate effectiveness because I could not take it long enough to know if it would have cleared up the infection or not. I took this medication for three days before the breathlessness, headaches and palpitations forced me to look up the reviews and then be thankful it didn't make me dangerously ill since my symptoms were apparently serious. If you have any type of breathing issue, do not take this medicine.

I took one pill of this 100 mg, it never reduced my fever and gave me a severe headache. I had taken it with food and am drinking plenty of water. I stopped after that one pill and read the reviews online, so won't take this med again. I plan to tell the doctor monday never to put anyone on this. I will report this to the FDA, since the company did not test this enough before releasing the drug.

This is my 3rd time with a bladder infection and 1st time using nitrofurantoin. I tend to be a bit less hydrated than I should, and the first two mornings I woke up with horrible headaches. I have since remedied this with lots of water and a little coffee. I have noticed I am tired and was struggling to focus at work, but I managed to get through the day. I have made sure to eat something with each pill and to space them out to 10-12 hours apart to keep it steady in my body, and it seems to be doing the trick with little side effects. I have felt twice as bad since taking it although it has killed the bacteria. I can barely drive or work. It makes me very tired and nauseated.

I have taken two doses so far and my only complaint is a stomach ache. I'm usually nauseous due to motion sickness, so this is nothing. Luckily, I already see some results (e.g it doesn't feel like getting bitten by fire ants when I pee), which is a HUGE plus.

This is the second time I've had to google medicines. Within a few minutes I was nauseous. But I have been after I eat and take medicine for about a month. I already have shortness of breath, chest pain, dizzy, and nauseous, so I'm not even sure if I need to continue taking it.

My daughter took this for a UTI, and only took the second pill and had tightening in her chest and breathing problems. She felt like she had pnemonia. This drug shouldn't even be prescribed or on the market. Doctors need to look into serious side effects more often.

Taking twice a day for two weeks. It's been one week now and feel fine, although very tired. Fatique could be due to infection, although I don't really know. No other symptoms so far.

I had a bladder infection, I took the first pill and fifteen minutes I was shaky,it has been about 3 hours now and I am so nauseated that I want to cry. I hate this medicine. No wonder the pharmacist said to me that if I started to feel sick to stop right away and call the doctor and have him prescribe another antibiotic, obviously she knew what I was in for...I just flushed all the pills down the toilet. I just want Cipro like I had before, I did wonder to myself when I saw THE PRESCRIPTION; what is this drug? I had a bad feeling about it before I even took it. Do not take this drug! I hope I have spared someone from getting sick, side effects are so bad that this drug needs to get off the market. I only took one pill and I am so sick right now. Read More Read Less

after 4 months on nitrfurantion my lungs and around my heart filled with fluid and I was dignoised with heart failure. After 4 days and many tests they took me off Nitrofurantion and put me on Prednisone. I was on prednisone for 7 months to clear my lungs. Nitrofurantion has left me with a blood anemia which is still unresolved. My next step is to have a bone marrow biopsy to see if my blood production has been affected by the drug. Nitrofurantion (Macrobid) is a very dangerous drug and has many side effects that are not listed. Take with caution. Read More Read Less

Started taking on a Sunday night, ended up in the ER Monday evening. Muscle spasms, cough, chest pain (like bronchitis, not a heart attack), dizzy, fever, chills, anxiety (weird, I know), general discomfort. Muscle spasms were the worst. Had appt with dr on Tuesday so told him I didn't want to take it anymore. He says he gives it to lots of patients and they have no problems with it. I find this difficult to believe. I want to get better, so will call pharmacist tomorrow and see if it MUST to be taken at bedtime. Maybe taking it in the morning will make a difference as it really affects my rest.Read More Read Less
