Before taking this medication, my knees and legs were in constant, extreme pain. After a year of this (no side effects), I have a small amount of occasional pain. I believe alendronate has been very beneficial. I am thrilled with my successful outcome!

My doctor prescribed this drug for osteoporosis. I took it 3 times, once per week, and then stopped. My doctor thinks I'm still taking it, but I'm not....because from the beginning, I just "KNEW" this stuff was POISON. And after reading the many, many reviews about the HORRIFIC side-effects of this CRAP, I will NEVER even touch this stuff, EVER again. Someone should start a class-action suit!!...

I took this drug for the first time Saturday Morning. Felt great. However Sunday when I went to get up I was so dizzy. I became very nauseated and started to vomit. It took several hours before I felt well again. A little unsure about taking it again.

Was on this medication for about six months after being on several other osteo medications over a period of 10+ years. Started to experience side effects within six hours of taking the weekly dose. Eye pain, headaches, heart palpatations, numbness of lips, jaw pain, joint pain and overall feeling blah. Doctor thought I was having a heart attack. Have been off this medicine for almost two weeks. Didn't know how badly I felt all the time until I stopped taking this. Will consult with doctor as to what to try next, but very cautious about going on any other medication for this condition. Does quality of life outweigh the treatment and side effects of any medication?Read More Read Less

After 1st dose salty taste in my mouth all day. That evening I had really bad muscle spazams in my back for a few hours followed by pains in my chest (felt like someone had hit me in the chest with a fist). Middle of the night had fever and chills. Went to Emergency room about 2:30 in the morning worried about possible heart attack. Was hospitalized for overnight observation. Heart checked out ok thankfully, chest muscles still hurt. My mouth & throat feel dry and tight four days after 1st dose. Just read your reviews and realized symptoms might be an adverse reaction with drug. Will see my doctor & let him advise me on future doses. Thank you, the reviews really helped me...would never have known.Read More Read Less

2 days after taking the second dose I experienced diarrhea, nausea, joint pain, headache, taste changes and bloating. 1 week later most side effects were gone...I will NOT take this generic form of Fosamax again. Will have the DEXA test done in a year or two and consider taking Fosamax again but not the generic.

After first dose had muscle and joint pain and weakness; by evening had severe flu like symptoms. The next morning continued joint and muscle pain and weakness plus feels like someone slugged me in the back. Feel very sluggish. Will try a second dose next week but if this keeps up I'm changing medication

Was taking Fosamax and switched as the generic was covered by my insurance. Had severe itching in my breasts...especially the nipples. Stopped taking medication.

I have only just started on this medication, but have had no problems so far. I received x-ray results back after experiencing some weakness in my right hip. I'm only 42 years old so my doc was surprised at the condition of my bones. Hence the need to start on medication straight away. I'll give it a try was considering Evista due to increased risk of breast cancer, but after reading the complications with that I'm sticking with this for now.
