Before taking this medication, my knees and legs were in constant, extreme pain. After a year of this (no side effects), I have a small amount of occasional pain. I believe alendronate has been very beneficial. I am thrilled with my successful outcome!

My doctor prescribed this drug for osteoporosis. I took it 3 times, once per week, and then stopped. My doctor thinks I'm still taking it, but I'm not....because from the beginning, I just "KNEW" this stuff was POISON. And after reading the many, many reviews about the HORRIFIC side-effects of this CRAP, I will NEVER even touch this stuff, EVER again. Someone should start a class-action suit!!...

I'm a 68 yr old female diagnosed with osteoporosis Feb '09.. took the weekly dose without side effects for seven months, then developed rt hip joint pain on walking up stairs and light jogging .. stopped taking it .. pain has since gotten progressively better .. will stick with calcium pills as reviews for similar meds are so horrible.

I was on Fozamax for a year, then switched to alendronate generic for the second year when insurance stopped covering Fozamax. The heart palpitations which began about 6 months into the second year were really scary! I was glad I made it to the end of the second year, but no more! My DEXA showed no change over the 2 year period, and of course the tech said I probably would have been worse without the meds. For me, the extra Vitamin D is helping absorb calcium better, so I'm hoping that will be the way to go. Read More Read Less

I was prescribed alendronate na 79mg tabs 1 time a week. I took it as prescribed at 7:30 am. Went to beauty shop and when I got out at 10:30,I developed griping pains and weakness and got very bloated. I made it home and the terrible diarihha started and I dehydrated and had to go to the emergency room and was given medication and I V liquid for over an hour and the nurse said I was really dehydrated. The doctor on duty said for me not to take the medicine anymore and not use any dairy products. I am sorry I can't take it but it really was Bad.Read More Read Less

My age is 57. I talked to my nurse today. I have been on this for 4mos.My last pill was 06-14. I took it monthly and sometimes forgot to do that becasue I am so use to taking meds daily. I've stopped taking it because I have arthritis and it has made it worst. Alot worse! I have a hard time getting up from a sitting position have lean on my desk and then try to stretch out, my knees hurt and my legs hurt where they join my hips;have inflamation in one elbow worse than the other and generally hurt all over. My nurse is changing me to Boniva, once a month. We'll see how it does after a couple of months. Read More Read Less

this generic form of fosamax: after taking this my whole body ached for two days after each dosage includingleg pain, headaches and heart palpitations. My bone density test did not show any improvement with this drug, in fact it has gotten worse. I now have stopped taking this drug.

I have terrible joint/muscle pain & back spasms. My legs hurt so much that I've stopped my walking routine. I'm stopping it after taking it for only 1 month. Calling my doc today.

I am concerned that this medication is causing my rapid heartbeat. I see others are experiencing this as well and I intend to investigate this further.

I had been taking Fosamax for many years but now my insurance company will not pay for it so I had to switch to the generic Alendrenate Sodium. Since the day I began using it I have had headaches, the leg pain, and also my heart is racing. After reading the other reviews at this website I am convinced it is this new medication that is the cause of this.

I’ve only been taking this drug for 3 months, therefore I do not know if this drug is working; however, I do know that one week after starting it I developed a severe neck pain and annoying muscal aches in both of my legs. My Dr. blew it off but I am totally convinced it is from this drug.
