Before taking this medication, my knees and legs were in constant, extreme pain. After a year of this (no side effects), I have a small amount of occasional pain. I believe alendronate has been very beneficial. I am thrilled with my successful outcome!

My doctor prescribed this drug for osteoporosis. I took it 3 times, once per week, and then stopped. My doctor thinks I'm still taking it, but I'm not....because from the beginning, I just "KNEW" this stuff was POISON. And after reading the many, many reviews about the HORRIFIC side-effects of this CRAP, I will NEVER even touch this stuff, EVER again. Someone should start a class-action suit!!...

Fosamax seemed to be a better drug, which I took for 2 yrs. Insurance switched to generic form (alendronate)about 9 months ago. Now I seem to have aches and pains in knees, back and shoulders. Have an appt. with doctor in December, will discuss continuing on this medication.

i have been on the drug for at least 3 months. Lately have been experiencing severe pain in joints especially knees, shoulders, and elbows. Looked this drug up, read reviews and could identify with what everyone said including stiffness, pain, and overall terrible feeling.

I have been taking Alendronate for 2 months. I am dizzy and had vertigo 3 weeks ago. I went to urgent care and asked if the medication could be the problem. I was told no but I have read that vertigo is one of the side effects. I will be going to my regular doctor to discuss this medication and alternatives.

I was diagnosied with osteopenia. The script was for Fosamax, ins wouldn't cover that but did cover Alendronate Sodium 70 mg. I took one tab on a Monday morning, Tuesday morning, I couldn't move. By Tuesday afternoon I was on my way to hospital in an ambulance. The er doctor said I was allergic with rare side effects to this medication. I definately will not take any thing like this again.

My mother has been taking this medication for some years and began having terrible headaches, leg, arm pain she thought she was having a stroke. I thought it was in h er head. I was on my way to work today and I had a thought that the bone pill was causing the pain she was having. I believe I was right. I will be taking her to the doctor next week and I told her to stop taking the medication. My mother has been retired for 5 years and she has went from being vibrant to almost down to nothing. This medication should be removed from the market.Read More Read Less

Took Fosamax for many years after surgically induced menopause. Had mild side effects. Insurance stopped covering Fosamax and switched me to Alendronate 70. Much more severe side effects, mainly severe back and jont pain. Also have been reading about thigh bone fractures due to this medication. Not willing to take this medication any longer.

I think with the bad press this drug is receiving I am just not sure about it. I have developed some leg and jaw discomfort and decided to discontinue the drug. I have been taking it for 2.5 years.

I started taking this drug one month ago. Took my last pill this past Sunday. I noticed in the last 2 weeks that I have been having heart palputations, trouble swallowing and what feels like heartburn. I took Fosamax about 5 years ago, got off of it when I started having trouble swallowing. Since that time I have relied on calcium and vitamin D. After this last experience with this drug I think I will take my chances with the calcium and Vitamin D, to scary for me.

First time taking this medication. Took one pill and the next two days I had a headache like I have never known, plus jaw pain. Even though my insurance doesn't cover Fosamax, I will have to budget each month and pay for the brand name drug. It is a shame to have insurance, but the insurance companies can dictate what we can and can't take!

Been taking Alendonate 35mg once a week for a couple of months now. I have no side effects. Previous hip pain has disappeared. But I won't know if it reverses my osteopenia until my next scan in one year.
