My family Doc noticed my ugly, thick, yellow toenails during a routine physical. He asked me if I would mind taking a Lamisil tablet once daily for one month to have normal nails again. I was ecstatic, hoping that I could once again wear sandals in public. After finishing the meds, I noticed that my toenails were changing back to normal. Today they are the same as when I was a teenager! But wait, ...

I am writing about six weeks into treatment (daily taking a pill at about the same time every day). The reason I am writing is to clarify some things other writers mentioned. One thing is, you may not see ANY change for several months, because the damaged nail stays damaged; it is the NEW nail(s) that slowly appear that will be clear and free of damage. Second, my dermatologist said that three months of daily tablets is what is required (I suppose less may work for some cases, but it is not as effective in general). Third, Lamisil is effective in 87% of cases of toenail infection; when it fails it is due to damaged nail bed that does not seal out new fungal infection (most people do not have that kind of toe bed damage). As for side effects, I have had none at all, and am surprised how many have reported some unpleasant side effects.Read More Read Less

Unfortunately Iâ??ve had toenails fungus since I can remember very discouraging for being a young woman, I dreamed to wear sandals and get pedicures! In my mid 20â??s I decided to seek medical intervention {even though when I was younger I was told that Lamasil wouldnâ??t do me any good due to the risk etc} well I got on it along with a topic ointment after my treatment I was finally blessed with normal health toenails! Mind you my fungus was so severe the doctor didnâ??t give me much hope but it worked miracles for me. Iâ??m now in my 30â??s rocking sandals even in the winter and getting my monthly pedicures! I would totally recommend this to anyone suffering with disgusting toe nails fungus. Thanks for reading. Read More Read Less

I suffer lupus. I have been dealing with fungus due to lupus in my skin and nails. Iâ??m in extremely bad pain due to lupus. And these rashes. The cracks are bleeding, so I was hoping this med would do it. I tried taking it for 6days. During those 6days. It was pure hell. Stomach, nausea , severe anxiety, diarrhea, then constipation. Stopping med today. Iâ??ll take the rash over this crap. Severe weakness while taking this med. wonâ??t be able to take this med. hopefully I can try something else. Read More Read Less

I would advise no one to take this drug ever. It is not worth it. I have endured 19 days of bloody diarrhea and have been diagnosed with colitis. Stop taking Lamisil!!!

I was given a 12 week treatment plan but only took it for 6 weeks before I quit it. I do see a slight improvement in my toenails, but the many side effects I had were not worth it.The biggest one is the 100% loss of taste in my mouth for the last 3 weeks. I cant taste ANYTHING. Please research this drug before you take it.

About 20 years ago, I had all ten fingers and 10 toes infected. Ugly, bleeding, embarrassing mess. I took the prescribed dosage of Lamisil and my fingers and toes cleared up. I did have a bad taste in my mouth that lasted about 6 months after discontinuing treatment. Now, it has returned to my two big toes and I started the regiment again today. Don't be afraid of this, at least without trying. The pluses out weigh the minuses, at least for me.

I suffered with toe/foot fungus for years & I'm on my 6 month of taking generic Lamisil & finally see results in my toenail. The only downside is the GI upset, constipation, & headache. I dealt with the side effects because I want to care the nail fungus. It works if you can tolerate the side effects.

Struggled with a toe fungus for years and I got to point where I just wanted to get rid of it. I took this medication and within a few weeks I noticed results. Im almost done taking the medication after being on it for 84 days. Is there any thing I should do to keep my toes healthy?

I have been taking the med for about three months now and have noticed improvement in my toenails but it remains present overall. I will continue to take and see if after 6-9 months it resolves. I am having upset stomach with diarrhea and headaches with the med. have not had any lab tests done yet. No follow up appt was scheduled with my PCC after if was prescribed.

I have been taking this med for almost 3 months now, I do see somewhat of improvement, side effects at first nauseous, headache not to bad but then realized it could possibly be the coffee! Stopped drinking coffee! Not much side affects now. That's a plus! I drink meds around 7 every evening. I just wish I would have taken some before pics first. My situation is that I've been taking these meds without prescription nor liver tests. I have about 15 pills left. I've had this fungus on my toenails for 15 yrs. I just want it gone. I know I shouldn't be taking without liver tests. I don't feel any different! (I know its not a smart choice). Read More Read Less

After getting a reaction to a facial cream with retinol (Neutrogena Retin-A) that resembled chemical burns in severity, fungus infected the skin of my face. When I started on terbinafine (Lamisil generic), I had had the infection for 5 months and had had unsuccessful treatment with Daktakort and Elidel. It kept coming back. I took terbinafine (1 tablet daily) for 3 months and used Avar facial wash every other day. It has been one month since I finished the medication and the fungus has not come back. I was very lucky not to have any side effects at all. My dermatologist did monthly liver panel blood tests, and those were normal as well. Read More Read Less

I picked up a case of ringworm at the gym. This has bad side effects 9 days in. I have a rash on my hands, feet, chest and my face. I'll stick to bleach and I won't ever take a drug that has the fifty potential side effects. I agree with another comment, I feel my doctor played fast and loose with this product.

I was ecstatic, hoping that I could once again wear sandals in public. After finishing the meds, I noticed that my toenails were changing back to normal. Today they are the same as when I was a teenager! But wait, there's more! The industrial strength ringworm that I picked up during the Vietnam war also disappeared completely...it had irritated me for many years, especially during the hot summer months. Additionally, thick callouses on my feet and heels disappeared! And I have not had a case of athletes foot since finishing the treatment either! In conclusion, Lamisil is an incredible miracle drug that rids the body of all fungus induced issues that, while not life threatening, are incredibly irritating. Take the pills and rid yourself of the cause.....don't buy creams, salves, and powders that only treat the symptoms!Read More Read Less

After 2 weeks of taking generic Lamisil, I developed an allergic reaction- a red, itchy, bumpy, skin rash on my chest, back, and neck. I stopped the medicine and was prescribed a steroid cream to control the rash. So, needless to say I will have to live with this fungus on my big toenail forever. My dermatologist did say that my only hope was to continuously apply Vick's Vaporub on my toe 2-3x day, and that could work, but probably not.....

Took for 3 months. Noticed results in one week!! Had no side effects either. Nails not quite ready for sandals but it is December so I can wait. Using Vicks vapor in on top of nails and it seems to help ward off re infection until new nails grow out completely. Call ur Doctor it really does work!!

Took generic form for 12 weeks. No side effects at all. It took months for the nails to grow in looking normally- fairly proportionally in time to how long the infection had been present in the nail, so don't be upset if your nails still look pretty bad at the end of the three months. A year later, mine are still improving. I tried EVERY home cure and "natural" cure prior to the lamisil- literally for years. Vinegar, Vicks Vaporub, Tea tree oil, bleach, "Fungi Nail" and the like. Nothing works unless you have a really mild case, which I didn't. I recommend not bothering with these. I wish I'd taken the Lamisil years ago. This will be the first summer I won't have to deal with the embarrassment of icky nails in 20 years! Important- my doctor told me to start applying topical lamisil while I was taking the pills and to apply it every day for the rest of my life to keep this from coming back. At the time, I felt it was kind of a life sentence, but I've been doing it for almost a year and am used to it now. Not a big deal. I also threw out all of my socks and replaced them while I was on treatment. The doc suggested I throw out my shoes as well, but instead I treated them all multiple times with antifungal sprays and kept some of them that were pretty new. Read More Read Less

So far so good, I've been on this medication for almost 3 weeks now because I was diagnosed with tinea versicolor on my back that appeared out of no where and now it is totally gone. I also used selsum blue medicated on my skin I would just rub the shampoo on my back leave for a few minutes rinse and so far its all gone. Fingers crossed it stays that way. Also no side effects as of yet.
