I am a registered nurse and just wanted to let everyone know this can be purchased over-the-counter (around 5 bucks). The only difference between OTC and prescription is the stregnth; 95mg versus 200mg. Most people can treat the symptoms with this medication and within 48 hours the infection is gone without use of an antibiotic. Lots of fluids meaning water and cranberry juice in the 48 hour win...

I ALWAYS USE THIS BEFORE I GO TO THE DOCTOR. IF IT DOESN'T GO AWAY AFTER A DAY OR 2 I THEN GO SEE MY DOC. IT USUALLY FIXES ME RIGHT UP. IN LESS THAN AN HOUR ! DRINK LOTS OF WATER AND CRANBERRY JUICE KEEPS ME WITHOUT HAVING A VISIT TO THE DOC.

Underwent radiation therapy for return of high PSA after prostate cancer. After radiation was complete started having urgency to urinate and pain in doing so. This drug worked quickly and is a replacement for oxycodine. Doctor did not tell me about coloration of urine and I though I was having a lot of blood loss but I now think it is only coloration due to dye effect of drug. Taking one pill three times a day. Only second day of treatment but no problems even though I was unaware that it should be taken with food. Slight dizzy effect.Read More Read Less

Had the worst most painful UTI ever! Doctor gave me antibiotics naturally and this for the pain. Without hours pain was gone when urinating. My doctor "asked me if I needed something for the pain" I said yes. And told him I had taken something long ago, turned urine blue. He laughed gave me this, turns it orange. No side effects at all, not a one, took it with and without food. As far as my issues with medicines. Often times I think I'm having side effects for a medicine, when it is something else. A couple things yes I do not even take, they make me ill (stomach). Also, this had no interactions with any of my other meds. But as it says make sure your doctor and pharmacist always have a complete list of your medicines. I learned a very hard lesson a few years ago in ICU with an Acute attach of Pancreatitis. I remember nothing of the 3 weeks, as on a morphine drip. Most do not make it through that. BUT big thing, not one person new what medicines I was taking (some very important - a heart medicine, and others - since I could not speak, I couldn't tell them when they ask and at that couldn't remember. I make sure all have that list. I keep one is my medicine cabinet at home also. But this medicine is awesome!!!!!!Read More Read Less

I am prone to UTI's and all of the antibiotics I have taken for it eventually worked, but took a few days to a week to begin to work. I just recently had a UTI and it was probably the most painful one I've ever had. My doctor prescribed me Cefdinir and recommended I take Phenazopyridine for immediate relief. He warned me about the side effects such as orange urine, so at first, I was skeptical, but I decided I couldn't deal with this UTI any longer, so I took the first dose, and it worked a few hours later! I've never been more relieved.Read More Read Less

I have a UTI that caused the usual symptoms, burning during urination, urethra felt swollen, etc. About 2 hours after I took one pill my pain began to diminish. Other people's reviews stated they had terrible stomach pains; I wonder if they took the pills with food?? My doctor specifically told me to take the pills with food. The only thing I noticed is I felt a little tired but Cipro, which I am also taking 500mg's of, can do that also. Very happy with this drug! If this happens again I will make sure I ask for this med first.Read More Read Less

This drug helped immediately to stop the urge to urinate, but it gave me such a killer headache. I took one dose and stopped.

I was suffering from abdominal pain, back pain, and horrible burning feeling when I urinated. It took a couple of days for the antibiotics to become effective so my doctor recommended I take this. I was SO GLAD that I did! Within an hour of the first dose, all pain was gone and the burning when I urinated quit. Most definitely use this for uti but remember, it's not a cure, just relief until the antibiotics start working. DO NOT take it before going to your doctor for the urine test. It will cause the test to be invalid. It does make your urine orange. That's not a big deal at all. Read More Read Less

I most likely have painful bladder syndrome or interstitial cystitis: never diagnosed as such, but I have UTI-like pain every couple months, and a culture has always been negative. This relieves the pain and urgency enough to allow me to go to work and sleep at night. It also allows me to self-treat by drinking a lot of water between bathroom trips to "stretch out" my bladder. Without this pill I would be peeing too often to be able to do that. After emptying a very full bladder a few times the pain is gone. I take at most 2 pills per day for up to 3 days, only when I have bad pain. No side effects for me other than bright urine.Read More Read Less

I had a hysterectomy and got a urinary tract infection. I had a lot of inflammation in my kidneys, tubes, and bladder. The bacteria was drug resistant and was very painful. I took this medication for two days and it helped me very much. I felt much better.

The medication took away the burning pain and bladder spasms for me within two hours of taking. Relief started maybe an hour after. Urine is dark orange but this was explained to me so it wasnt a worry. I have slight stomach pain but nothing compared to the UTI pain. I take no other medications and never have (and Im 47) so maybe my system handles it better.

This medicine did help with the lower back pain associated with my UTI, but it also gave me horrible headaches and severe nausea. I am not going to finish taking it....just hoping the antibiotics kick in soon.

Directions say to take it with milk, so I did. DON'T take on an empty stomach, because that will cause nausea. Worked well, could tell when it was starting to wear off because UTI-related burning would start to come back. It took away my discomfort while the antibiotic was taking effect.

Will turn your urine dark orange, and stains underwear. Only helped somewhat after I urinated a few time after taking. You just don't tai it and it aces pain away, its not a narcotic. I had god awful nausea after taking. Literally 10 mins after taking my stomach was killing and i was soooo nauseated. It would take a good hour or two before it went away, and was EVERYTIME I took the med.

I often have painful urinary problems and this medication works wonders. Yes it will stain everything that comes into contact with it so be extra careful. Shortly after taking medication I can urinate without much difficulty. A very effective product.

This has been one of the most unpleasant evenings I can remember, thanks to phenazopyridine. I took the medication as directed and after consulting the warnings, as I was waiting for my physician to prescribe an antibiotic. I've gotten no relief. I have gotten alarmingly dark yellow-orangish urine that stains everything it touches and has left me with a more uncomfortable and urgent feeling. Now I'm just waiting for the drug to pass through my system so I can get back to treating the original problem. Offhand, I'd say do not use this product under any circumstances--the result in my case has been worse than if I'd taken nothing!Read More Read Less
