I take this for polycystic ovarian syndrome. It literally changed my life for the better in so many ways. Dealing with stomach upset is most definitely an issue but this is totally outweighed by the positive health effects.

It works well when I take it regularly - it causes GI effects until adapted to - mainly diarrhea, bloating, gas. Unfortunately, it is one I sometimes skip, and tho the side effects will diminish with regular use - if I skip a day or two - I get to "readjust". As for effectiveness - not much progress yet, tho A1C is stabilizing, currently 1000mg, started at 2000mg - which was too much for me.

I have PCOS and have always has irregular periods. While Yaz/Yasmin have been the only pills to help get me on a regular cycle, I was prescribed Metformin to help get my weight down. Yes, it was easy to use and my weight came down (approx 10 lbs), but I started having serious hair loss. I am told this is very very rare but have stopped taking it and the weight has crept back on. After reading other reviews here I may ask about the brand glucophage as some seem to have had very different experiences on brand vs generic.Read More Read Less

I take this for PCOS. I saw at least a 20 lb. weight loss after taking it. I tried another type of medication (Actos) because it had less side effects, but I gained 25 lbs. If you hang with the drug for at least 2-3 weeks and take it at about the same time every day, you will get used to it. As a teacher it is not easy to deal with the side effects, but I feel better. I do not suffer from fatigue, insomnia and my periods come back. Always keep snacks on hand for the sugar drop and eat often. For PCOS I have found it to be the most effective treatment AND I HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING!!Read More Read Less

My stomach is now bloated and I look 9 months pregnant ( no lie) I have had SO much gas its awful. I also have noticed I am very agitated and my pain meds don't seem to be working at all since taking this med. The only way I can describe the feeling I feel when I take this medication is that to hydroxycut ( the weight loss suppressant which I would NEVER recommend nor will I take it again).I am very anxious, jittery, feel like I am crawling out of my skin. I started on 500mg daily for week 1 and this is day 2 of taking 500 mg in am and then again in pm.Blood sugars remain all over the place...145- 333. I plan on letting the doc know. My husband is on this horrible drug for the past few years. If he has ONE good day a week, he counts his blessings. He has terrible gas pains, vomiting, diarreah and said he always feels like he has a "hangover." What a horrible way to live, and his blood sugar isn't really even that high. I'm trying to get his doctor to take him off this gargage so he can resume a normal life.

Difficult to stabilize results. It spikes for no appoarent reason often going through a period of stability in the "normal" range and tends to fluctuate for a period of time without no change in exercise or eating routine.

This medication works if I am on a strict diet. Since my liver produces sugar all the time, I have high and lows that are uncontolable. Not a happy camper!

had good results when I first started takeing it 12 years ago, lately I hve noticed I'm not geting the results that I am looking for.My Doctor has increased my dosage from 500 mg twice a day to 850 mg twice a day.It has not made any diference.Resently I had a injection of cortison for a sore tendon and my blood sugars didn't come down to exceptiable levels for a week, also have been getting high readings in the morning.Any sugestions to what is happening.
